Eileen Austin Obituary

Eileen C. Austin, a retired food service worker at NYS Psychiatric Hospital in New York, N.Y., died peacefully surrounded by her family in St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus, on Saturday, November 19, 2005. She was 87 years old.

The daughter of Michael Lynch and Margaret O'Sullivan Lynch, she was born February 8, 1918 in Droumbeg, County Cork, Ireland.

She was married to Arnold Austin who predeceased her in 1962.

Eileen was a past member of the Beara Club; Ancient Order of Hibernians, Bronx Division; former member of Visitation Blessed Virgin Mary Parish and St. Anne's Guild in the Bronx.

A family statement reads: "Eileen was much loved not only for her generous spirit but for her Irish sense of humor. She will be missed more than words can say."

She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Sweeney of New Windsor; sister, Nora O'Shea-Orpington of Kent, England; grandchildren: Melinda Hettner and husband, Kenneth, of Westbury, L.I., John Robert Hernandez of Jacksonville, Fla., Christopher J. Sweeney and wife, Kathleen, of New Windsor, and Steven J. Sweeney of New Windsor; and great-grandchildren: Brittany, Aleesa, Christina and Megan.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two daughters, Margaret Eileen Palomo and Jeanne Marie Austin; her brothers, John and Michael Lynch; and sisters, Mary, Catherine, Margaret and Hannah.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, November 21, 2005 at the Quigley Brothers Funeral Home, Inc., 337 Hudson St., Cornwall-On-Hudson, N.Y.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 22 in St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, Cornwall-On-Hudson, N.Y., with Father Bernard P. Heter officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx.

Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity.
