Michael Monahan Obituary

Formerly of Ellenville, NY

Michael Robert Monahan of Lewes, DE, formerly of Ellenville, NY, passed away peacefully at home, Tuesday, May 26, 2009 surrounded by his loving family.

The son of the late Robert and Gladys Monahan, he was born March 12, 1952 in Ellenville. He and his family were the owners of the former Monahan's Reef. He moved to Lewes, DE to work with his lifelong friend, John Dileo, at various restaurants, most recently Casa Dileo. He was extremely well known and loved by many in the area.

Michael enjoyed life to the fullest and had a way of making people around him happier for having known him. At his Memorial Service in Lewes, he was described as a "Pied Piper". His passions were family, cooking, entertaining friends and family in his home, music and sports. He took great pleasure in going to many concerts in his life and always remained true to the New York Yankees.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his brother, Sean Timothy Monahan.

He is survived by his loving wife, Connie Monahan; her sons, William Wright, Jr. and Charles Hazel, III and wife, Nikki and their children, Morgan and Lincoln; beloved sister, Pattie Allison and husband, Carl of Hurleyville; beloved uncle of their children, Tracey Hussey and husband, Arthur and their daughter, Jessica; Kevin Leland and wife, Peggy and their children, Julia and Gregory; Kristopher Allison and his wife, Kristalyn and their son, Austin; Scott Allison and his wife, Erin and their children, Evelyn and Patrick; Jeffrey Allison and his wife, Donielle and their daughters, Reagan and Alexandra; Robin Allison and her children, Kirk and Katherine; niece, Kerri Layton and Troy Reese and their children, R.T. and L.J.; lifelong friends, Debi and Jack Lambert and their daughter, Kaitlin; and the many good friends and relatives in Lewes, too numerous to mention.

Visitation will start at 1 p.m. with a Memorial Service to follow at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, at Loucks Funeral Home in Ellenville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550 or the United Way of Sullivan County, PO Box 1036, Monticello, NY 12701.

Arrangements by Loucks Funeral Home, 79 N. Main St., Ellenville, NY 12428; 845-647-4343.

I am sorry to hear of Mike's passing. We became good friends, when he worked in Highland Falls. Both being Yankee fans and Allman Brothers fans made that easy, I guess. I will miss you, Mike ..... save me a stool up there.
