Richard studied English with me as a sophomore, and I am struck to the core by this terrible event. I enjoyed having Rich in class. He was a gem. He wore his JROTC uniform with a sense of dignity and pride. He always tried his best for me; his work was always on-time and complete, and I had such hopes for him.

God bless his parents and siblings. I can only imagine their pain and sorrow. He was the best of boys, and after 16 years of teaching, I still struggle with the fact that Life seems to be greedy, seems to claim some of the best ones far too soon.

Kids, please take care of yourselves; watch, for ye know not the day nor the hour.
