Thomas McCarthy Obituary

Thomas F. McCarthy, Jr., age 76, of Adrian, Mich., passed away suddenly May 19, 2005 at Bixby Hospital.

He was born February 16, 1929 in Fall River, Mass., the son of Thomas F. and Mary (Barrett) McCarthy, Sr.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He married his first wife, Jean Hagy, and she preceded him in death in 1966. On July 8, 1967 he married his best friend, Pat Connelly, in Middletown. She survives and they celebrated a marriage of 37 years.

Tom worked as an educational textbook salesman until his retirement. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Tom was a member of the VFW; the Moose in Adrian; belonged to McQuoids Fire Company in Middletown, N.Y.; and very proud to have been an honorary member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. He loved sports of all kinds, especially watching the Red Sox and Notre Dame. His most treasured time was with his family and his grandchildren. His second best friend was his pet "Maggie". He was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He will dearly be missed by his loving family and his second best friend, Maggie.

In addition to his wife, Pat, survivors include his children, David McCarthy of Clinton, Linda McCarthy of Bakersfield, Calif., Thomas R. (Stephanie) McCarthy of Toledo, Ohio, Kathleen (Paul) Duvall of Britton; brother, James (Olga) McCarthy of Fall River, Mass.; sister, Mary Dell Loper of Glastonbury, Conn.; six grandchildren: Kelly, David, Michael, Kayla, and Thomas McCarthy, and Zachary Duvall.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Jean Hagy; and a daughter, Mary Margaret, in infancy.

A Funeral Mass for Tom will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday May 24, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Dave Hudgins as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with full military rites by the VFW Annis-Fint Post #1584.

Visitation will be on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM with a Vigil Service at 7:30 PM.

Memorial contributions in memory of Tom may be made to Lenawee Humane Society or St. Joseph Catholic Church. Envelopes are available at Braun Everiss Wagley Funeral Home, 1501 W. Maumee St., Adrian, MI 49221.

Hi Pat,

I was sorry to read about Tom in the Record....You have been in my thoughts many, many times over the tears and both, Stan & I pray for The Healing Love & Peace from Our Lord to comfort all of you at this sad time in your lives. May the Love you & Tom shared carry you through and allow the Lord to Open another window for you....Keep your Faith strong and we will surely keep you in our Prayers.
