Erik Anderson Obituary

Erik D. Anderson

Redding, CA

1968 – 2015

Erik D. Anderson passed away at home on July 9, 2015 at the age of 47.

Erik is survived by his father, Richard Anderson, step-mother Carla Anderson, brother Jason Anderson; sisters Kristina Stewart (Kevin) and Kayla Anderson, nephew Chance Stewart, grandmother Bernice Rocca, step-grandfather Lyle Raty, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Erik was preceded in death by his mother Pamela A. Rocca.

Erik moved to Redding with his family at the age of seven. Erik attended Enterprise High School, Shasta College and CSU, Chico. He lived in many cities in California, Oklahoma, Hawaii and Oregon. His travels took him to Bulgaria, Lithuania and Italy. Before moving back to Redding, he lived in Ashland, Oregon where he leaves behind many friends who enjoyed his fun, frivolity and love of astronomy, nature and artistic Ashland culture. He was a computer and astronomy buff since childhood and built his own telescope at the age of 14. A past President of the Southern Oregon Skywatchers Association he was a mentor to many who wanted to learn about the stars and galaxies of the universe. He enjoyed many Shasta Astronomy Club star parties. His career began as a computer programmer, writing language and developing computer games. Always a computer wizard, he developed a business to include his passion for astronomy. As owner of AstroStudio.org, he published books, moon calendar posters, galaxy posters and Splendors of the Universe calendars. His most recent book was Vistas of Many Worlds. He published many articles in science and astronomy journals over the years. Before he began his astronomy business he made his living as a web developer and maintained websites for many clients. He dabbled in photography and contracted weddings and worked with Hot Boat Magazine, photographing boat races from a helicopter. He was an avid reader and always had a book (or tablet) in his hands.

Erik is remembered for his wit, talent, incredible intelligence, and loyalty to the people in his life.

Erik is deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

A pot luck gathering, to honor Erik, is planned at the home of Richard and Carla Anderson, September 12, 2015, 12:00 noon. Contact Blair's Cremation and Burial (530) 241-3400 or email [email protected] for details.

When you look up at the stars, we hope you will think of Erik

Erik, my precious friend. How I will miss our nights under the stars, geeking out on the structure of the galaxy ,converting light years to parsecs, and ripping on astronomical distances. I so miss your spontaneous laughter, your positive outlook on everything and everyone, and your steadfast friendship. I will always think of you when I'm out under the stars, my dear friend.

I have been missing Erik's smiling face and his visits to my gallery. We would have tea and chat about life. I miss meeting up at the Green Show and the Winchester's little bar to listen to classical guitar music. It was a great joy to know Erik...so full of knowledge about such a broad range of subjects...he was never at a loss for things to talk about. It was also an honor and a lot of fun to have Erik's book launching and digital art exhibition at the gallery several years ago....100's of people attended to celebrate Erik's work! Miss you, Erik. Many blessings to your entire family and all those that were close to you!

Erik, Its been many years, but how odd that last Friday I was telling the firefighters that I work with, were up at Clearlake, on a fire. I was telling them about how cool it was to fly in your grandpa's sea plane from the Konocti Harbor to the house on the island way back when were in maybe 7th grade. Erik, rest in peace.
