Merle Huffman, 88 of Redding, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017 at his home. He was born November 19, 1928 in Salisbury, IL to Claud G. and Lydia B. (Wilcox) Huffman.
He is survived by: children, Dale (Melinda) Huffman of Redding and Kathy (Dan) Huffman-Reinking of Morton, IL; granddaughter, Amy Huffman of Arcata; sister, Lois (Wayne) Shanle of Riverton, IL; sister-in-law, Jane Huffman of Springfield, IL; as-well-as, many nieces and nephews.
Merle was proceeded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, 2 brothers, 2 brothers-in-law, and a sister-in-law.
Merle loved raising and training German Shorthair hunting dogs. He was a founding member of the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Northern California and a member and manager of the Redding Gun Club.
Services and burial will be held Monday, June 19, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Northern California Veteran Cemetery in Igo. Arrangements made by Blair's.

Papa Merle, I think of you so often, especially lately, as Madison has been trap shooting at the gun club. Each time I go out there, I think of how much you would enjoy watching her shoot, and the quality time you spent with our kids out there, teaching them to shoot, hunt, and fish, along with lots of love, guidance, and snuggles. You were such a huge part of their childhood, and such a blessing to all of us. You will be remembered and loved forever. With tomorrow being your angelversary, I just wanted to say, that you were such an honorable, fun, caring, and patient man. We miss you and love you.

Papa Merle, you will forever hold such a special place in all our hearts - you were such a caring, patient, and affectionate Papa to my children - Matt, Nick, and Brad. The time and attention you gave to mine and Susie's children, whether snuggling in your chair, taking them bird hunting or fishing, riding on the tractor, gardening, or just talking during dinner will never be forgotten. You are one of the most honorable men I have ever known. I'm sure Nick was waiting in heaven for you and yelled "hi Papa, it's me Nick" as he wrapped you in another huge hug (like he did last time he saw you). I know you are now healthy and happy and able to be active like you love to be; enjoy seeing the beautiful sights surrounding you. We love you and will miss you until we meet again. XO
Dale and Kathy, you were so blessed to have such an amazing dad! I know your hearts are breaking and I pray that you find comfort in all the happy memories you have of your special times with your dad. You both took such wonderful care of him and always showed him how much he was loved. God bless you both!

My friend and neighbor for over 20 years, you will forever be in my heart, missing you and our morning talks, coffee on cold days, fixing things that break, caring for our animals, and so much more.
