September 17th 1965- November 6th 2007
REDDING- Tom Daniel Capener was born in Redding on September 17th 1965. Tom passed away in Garberville, CA on Tuesday, November 6, 2007. He is survived by his parents, Paul and Ellen of Redding along with his 3 brothers Jorgen of Denver, CO, Mike of Concord, CA, and Lars of Chicago IL. Tom's passing will temporarily separate him from his loving wife Becky and their 7 children. While we mourn our loss, we also celebrate his wonderful life, one given in service, hard work and dedication to faith and family. Tom touched the lives of many and has left a legacy of hope and joy to those that remain. We will miss him.
Tom was the 3rd son of four boys born to Paul and Ellen Capener. While he was born in Redding he quickly moved with the family to various western states over the course of the first 10 years of his life including stops in New Mexico, Idaho and Colorado before settling again in Redding in 1976. Paul was the Area Manager for the Bureau of Reclamation supervising such facilities as Shasta Dam and other water projects.
Tom went to Pacheco Elementary school, Nova and graduated from Enterprise High School in 1983. While at Enterprise Tom played on the basketball team and enjoyed ceramics. Upon graduation Tom served a 2-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tonga. Tom loved his mission and the Tongan people and assimilated easily into the Polynesian culture. He arrived back home in 1985 with literally the clothes on his back. Once back home Tom pursued his education and his future wife Becky Miller and joined the National Guard. Tom and Becky were married in the Los Angeles LDS Temple in December 1989. Tom began working for Ladd Construction while attending Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Tom graduated with his degree in Civil Engineering in 1993 and began advancing his career with Ladd.
Tom was known as an expert engineer and project manager. Well respected by all those with whom he associated he quickly became a partner in the company. He was a man of professional integrity and solid performance. His professionalism and experience will be missed.
Tom was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and most recently served as a Bishop and Scout Master. Through his faithful service, he touched the lives of many.
Although always anxiously engaged in good causes, he considered his greatest calling that of husband and father. The love of his life was his wife and children. He loved to spend time on various projects around his home and evenings boating with his family on Whiskeytown Lake. He was a loving husband and father and brought much joy to all who knew him.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 10th at 10am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel on 3410 Churn Creek Rd Redding, CA
