Daniel T. Hatt
June 3, 1955 - July 2, 2012
Passed away in Del Mar, California, on July 2, 2012, after a long and courageous battle against cancer. A graduate of Pacific University, Daniel received his J.D. cum laude from the University of San Diego. He was a member of the American, California and San Bernardino Bar Associations and practiced law with the firm of McPeters, McAlearney, Shimoff and Hatt for 27 years. He specialized in trusts and estate, education, employee benefits, and nonprofit and charitable organization law. Daniel was a former director and president of the Redlands Community Hospital Foundation and served as director of the Hospital's corporate board. He also served as a trustee of the Kimberly Shirk Association, a former director and president of the Crafton Hills College Foundation, president of the Estate Planning Council of San Bernadino County, and president of the Redlands Sunrise Rotary. Daniel was an avid runner and deeply enjoyed beach and maritime culture, including sailing and surfing. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Martha; his sons, Nicholas and Dylan; brothers, Jeff and John; and sister, Mary Beth Rowe. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 15, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 334 14th Street, Del Mar, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to St. Peter's Episcopal Church or the American Cancer Society.

Dan was a wonderful friend and roommate while we both studied at the University of San Diego School of Law. His wife was blessed to have such a husband, and his two sons, to have such a father.

Dan was an excellent writer and part of my job at the law firm was to compose legal letters for clients. That kind of writing is highly specialized. I learned from him as one of the best and use those skills today, many years later.

Dear Martha, Nicholas and Dylan and all of the family, I went to law school with Dan and stayed in touch over the years. I am so sorry for your loss. Dan was not only one of the smartest lawyers, he was also always so honest and kind and had such a great sense of humor. He and I would laugh out loud in class when one of us, sitting next to each other, would say something we thought was funny. I can't imagine what grief you are going through, but only will say that he was loved, respected and trusted by all who knew him. My wife and I pray for you all. All of us who worked with Dan at the firm in Redlands recall him with fondness, respect, and great admiration for his spirit, hard work, and courage during his struggles to remain so strong, confident, and athletic in the face of bouts will ill health. My heart goes out to all of you.
