JAMES EDDY Obituary
as born on December 7, 1921 and entered into eternal life on January 29, 2010, following a heroic battle with cancer. Born to Evelyn Harper and Robert Quincy Eddy in Bakersfield, California, the family soon moved to San Bernardino, where Jim attended school. While a student at San Bernardino Valley College, Jim joined the California National Guard. His unit was activated in 1941 and he served as a pi lot with the United States Air Force in the Southwest Pacific during WWII. Returning to California after the war, Jim continued his education at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, studying Architecture and Engineering. During the Korean Crisis, Jim again served as a pilot in the USAF, and retired as a Major in 1962. While in service, Jim received numerous citations, medals, and awards including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Airman's Medal. He was employed by the County of San Bernardino as a Chief Building Construction Engineer until 1985, when he retired, but he continued to work as a consultant. In 1992, Jim and his wife, Anne, moved to the Highland Springs Estate Country Club, where Jim greatly enjoyed golf and all the amenities there. They later came to Redlands in 2003. Jim was a member of the Benevolent Order of Elks, The Knights of Columbus, The Loyal Knights of the Round Table International - Redlands Table, The Order of Daedalians at March AFB, and The Orange E mpire Military Officers' Club. He also served on the Board of Director's of the Salvation Army in San Bernardino, where he was honored as "Man of the Year" for his volunteer participation in the construction of the Hospitality House. Jim and Anne were also active volunteers for the Mary's Mercy Center in San Bernardino and H.E.L.P. Inc. in Banning, rendering services to the poor and homeless. Jim leaves two sons; James Jr. and his wife Debra, and Stephan and his wife Marjorie; one daughter, Mary Fernande z; two step daughters, Georgia Calvin and Judeth Turnbull; two step sons, Scott and Brian Turnbull; nine grand- children and nine great- grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Memorial Chapel at Montecito Memorial Park, 3500 Washington Street in Colton on February 3, 2010 at 10:00 a.m., followed by graveside services with the full military honors. Jim was an honorable man, a devoted husband, a loving father, a wonderful grandfather, and a good friend. He will be missed by a ll, who were touched by his life.
