Madelyn Hart Obituary

Madelyn Mary Hart, 98, Jefferson, Ore., died Sunday, March 1, 2015, at Evergreen Hospice in Albany.
Madelyn Hart was born May 22, 1916, in Imogene, the first of four children of Frank and Maude (Smith) Martin. They soon moved to a farm near Red Oak. She fondly recalled working at the Green Parrot Cafe, owned at that time by Greek immigrants whom she long remembered and loved.
She graduated from high school in Emerson, where she later attended her 70th high school reunion. In 1936, her family left the farm and joined many Iowans who went west during the Great Depression. Her family settled in Jefferson, Ore., where she met Robert S. (Bob) Hart, the son of Jefferson farmers, Charles C. and Lula (Vose) Hart. They were married on Feb. 20, 1939, and soon settled on their own farm. Bob and Madelyn had four children.
Madelyn was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Albany Eagles. She worked for several years at an Albany Laundry and at Northrup King. She could, at 98, recall with love and fondness the many friends she came to know there.
Blessed with a clear mind and astonishing memory, she often spoke of friends and family who remain in the Red Oak to Omaha area, where, like her mother, Maude, she longed to return.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; son, Bob; daughter, Carol; brother, Frank and sister, Connie.
Madelyn is survived by her son, Patrick, and her daughter, Susan Richardson, both of Jefferson; her sister, Eileen Martin Marcum, Albany; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
At her request there were no services. Fisher Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
