Ann Finch Waddell

Mrs. Ann Finch Waddell, 86, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Vidant Medical Center surrounded by her family,

A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday at 4 PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Chapel with the Rev. Bob Hudak officiating. The burial will be private.

A native of Johnston County, Ann and her late husband, Hal Gordon Waddell, Jr, made their home in Greenville since 1966. She attended Greensboro College and briefly worked in the publishing business prior to becoming a full time mother and homemaker. She studied Art at East Carolina University and continued to master various painting styles that she greatly enjoyed. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Ann will be fondly remembered as a lady who carried herself with great elegance and humility. Ann being engaging and warm, with a great love of others, was afforded many great friendships throughout her lifetime. Her love of art and paintings continued throughout her life and even in her years at Cypress Glen, she was able to share her art with friends and fellow residents and staff.

In addition to her husband, Hal, Ann was preceded in death by her father, William Anderson, mother and step-father, Ruth Finch Hayes and Ernest "Kelly" Hayes, her first husband, Richard Carter Stokes, III, stepsons, Michael Henning Waddell, William Randolph Waddell and a brother, William A. Finch, Jr.

She is survived by: Loving daughter, Frances "Fran" W. Best and husband, Mike, of Greenville; Step-daughter and Fran's loving sister, Ollie Seidman and husband, Paul, of Kentucky, Adored sister, Alice Frances "Frankie" Hobart and husband, John, of Smithfield. Nephews, J. Donald Hobart, Jr. and wife, Kay, of Raleigh, Frank A. Hobart and wife, Betsy, of Wilmington, and Charles "Chuck" Laughinghouse Stokes, II and wife, Kim, of Ayden Step-daughter, Anne Louise McWalter; and Step-son, Hal Gordon Waddell, III.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Parrish Hall at the church.
