KINSTON - Anne Carolyn Frazier Moxley, 72, of 2307 Hodges Rd., died at 4 a.m. Sunday, April 13, 2008, at Lenoir Memorial Hospital, following a longtime battle with Alzheimer's Disease. A private graveside service for family and close friends will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Pinelawn Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Westminster United Methodist Church, with Pastors Haywood Smith and Leanne Calhoun officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
Mrs. Moxley, a retired educator, was born July 30, 1935, in Liberty, Randolph County, the only child of Boyd and Marjorie Allred Frazier who preceded her in death. She was married Aug. 24, 1957, to William Dell "Bill" Moxley, who survives.
In addition to her husband, other survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Anne Moxley of Hillsborough; a son, Christopher Boyd Moxley of Williamston; two grandchildren, Luther Coy Gates Jr. of Wilmington and Andrew Christopher Moxley of Chapel Hill; an aunt, Audrey Allred of Wilmington; her longtime caretaker and companion, Connie Matthijs of Kinston; a longtime family friend, B. Allen Critcher III of Williamston, and several cousins.
Mrs. Moxley earned a BA degree in elementary education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She later earned her MA degree in elementary education from East Carolina University. She taught for one year in Knightdale, while the remainder of her 25-year teaching career was spent in the Lenoir County and Kinston City public schools before her retirement in June 1995.
Mrs. Moxley was a past Sunday School director at Westminster United Methodist Church, where she was a longtime member. She was also a Girl Scout, Brownie Scout and Cub Scout troop leader, a past president of the Kinston Lions Club Auxiliary, and a "Pink Lady" volunteer with the Lenoir Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. In addition to educating children, her biggest joys in life were her family, traveling the U.S. and abroad, pets, antiques and doll collecting.
