Charles Smith Obituary

Charles Benjamin Smith, Jr.

GREENVILLE - Charles Benjamin Smith, Jr., 25, died tragically June 16, 2018 and is now celebrating his new life with our Lord and Savior.

The family will receive friends Friday from 2-4 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home. The memorial service will follow at 4 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel.

Benjamin was born March 25, 1993 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is the son of Marsha Hardy Smith and Charles Benjamin Smith, Sr. of Greenville.

He moved with his family to Greenville in 1994. Benjamin attended the Oakwood School where he played soccer and basketball. He proudly received the Eagle Scout Award in 2010. After transferring to Farmville Central High School, he became actively involved in the ROTC program, played baseball, soccer, football, and graduated in 2011. He was continuing his studies at Pitt Community College in Greenville.

Benjamin was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved traveling with his family, especially to Treasure Cay, Bahamas, and fly fishing in Alaska. He loved cooking and spending time with his beloved dog, "Buckshot". Benjamin was known for his warm heart, big smile, bear hugs, bright blue eyes, and a firm handshake. He never met a stranger, as he loved everyone unconditionally.

Benjamin had recently enlisted in the US Army and was looking forward to serving his country.

Benjamin is preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert Paul and Lucy M. Smith of Ayden, and grandfather, Jesse Thomas Hardy, Jr. of Farmville.

He is survived by his loving parents, his grandmother, Sue Hardy Paul and his step grandfather, Robert T. Paul. Other survivors include Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Smith of Arapahoe, Scott Smith of Wilmington, Paul Wesley Smith of Monroe, Mr. and Mrs. Adolf (Kaye) Bell of Myrtle Beach, SC and Mr. and Mrs. John (Angela) Elsberry of Charlotte, Mrs. Sarita Hardy Cawiezell and husband Roger, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy (Beth) Hardy of Farmville, Miss Elizabeth Hardee of Greenville, Mr. and Mrs. Miles (Shannon) Minges, and Mr. and Mrs. Landon (Bridgett) Minges of Greenville.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to those who have held them in their thoughts and prayers and through the many acts of kindness shown during this difficult time. The family is comforted in knowing as a Christian, there is hope in heaven and being absent from the body assures presence with the Lord.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of our beloved Benjamin to the Falkland Volunteer Fire Department, 3620 West Avenue, Falkland, NC 27827 or to the charity of your choice.

Arrangements by Wilkerson Funeral Home and Crematory.
