Richard Ward Obituary

GALESBURG - Richard L. "Dick" Ward, 72, Galesburg, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019, at home.

Dick was born Sept. 21, 1946, in Macomb, the son of Homer Elton and Margaret Ellen (Andrews) Ward. He graduated from Galesburg High School and served in the United States Army from Feb. 20, 1967, until he was honorably discharged on Feb. 11, 1969. Dick worked as a farm hand for several years, then worked 35 years for Monmouth Feed Services, retiring in 2018. He was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285 and enjoyed tinkering as a shade tree mechanic.

Dick is survived by three brothers, Ronald (Karla) Ward of Wataga, John (Kathleen) Ward of Henderson and Gary Ward of Monmouth; four sisters, Mary Wensel of Galesburg, Susan Ward of Galesburg, Sally (Jim) Wardell of Monmouth and Peggy (Steve) Redfern of Galesburg; and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Dick was preceded in death by one brother, Donnie Ward; and one sister, Barbara Ward.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019, at the Thomas Legacy Center at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Private burial with military rites will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion Post #285.
