Shirley Jane Whitson
Williamsfield - Shirley Jane Whitson, 80, of Williamsfield, Illinois, died at 1:40 p.m. on August 11, 2021, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born on December 16th, 1940, in Brimfield, Illinois, the daughter of Everett and Violet Foster. She married Audley B. Whitson on March 24th, 1961, in Elmwood, Illinois. Audley passed away on December 1, 2010. An infant daughter, Tina, and one son, Audley Daniel Whitson, her parents, 4 sisters and 7 brothers preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter-in-law, Michelle M. Whitson of Delong, Illinois; grandchildren-Kaleigh Whitson (great grandchildren: Zane, Kit, Maxx), Mason and Brady Whitson, one daughter, Danita Whitson of Galesburg, Illinois; grandchildren-Brandy (Travis) Florio (great grandchildren: Aubree, Raulee, Gino, Vito), Dustin Whitson (great grandchildren: Faelynn), Tiffany Rickey, Shauni Rickey, one son, Darin (Pam) Whitson of Manhattan, Kansas; grandchildren- Jacie (Cody) Landrum (great grandchildren: Kinsley, Karden, Kowen), Connor (Katie) Whitson and Megan Whitson, one sister, Joyce Foster of Galesburg, Illinois, one brother, Archie Foster of Elmwood, Illinois and numerous other family members that adored Shirley and many that helped care for her in her last days on this earth.
Shirley was raised and educated in Brimfield, Illinois. With her husband and family, she owned and operated Whitson Yates City Meats, a meat locker in Yates City, Illinois from 1989 to 1994. Shirley then went on to complete the Medical Secretary program with honors at Carl Sandburg College. She worked as a medical transcriptionist in the medical records department at Cottage Hospital and ended her career working from home as a medical transcriptionist. Shirley was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed family time (especially listening to guitar pickin' and singings), trips to Kentucky, mushrooming, taking and looking at photographs, gardening, tending to her flowers and fruit trees and collecting things of interest.
A private family burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. Don Miller officiating. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville have been entrusted with arrangements.
