Daniel Picker Obituary

1913-2014

Daniel L. Picker was born March 10, 1913 and passed away on Feb. 1, 2014 after a short illness at the age of 100.

Daniel was born to Gottfried and Lottie (Boyce) Picker, and raised in Colome, SD, with his 2 sisters, graduating high school in 1930.

He later moved to California, meeting Edna Smith while working for her father on the ranch. They married in 1941, and were married 54 years when she died in 1995.

During WWII he served with the Army Corps of Engineers, and then moved his family to the Eugene area where he learned refrigeration at night school. He was offered a job in Klamath Falls so the family moved there for a few years in the late 1940's. They moved back to Eugene in 1953, where he continued to work in refrigeration until retiring in 1977. He and Edna raised their 2 children mostly in Eugene, enjoying trips to the beach, camping, boating and fishing. After retirement they enjoyed spending several winters as snowbirds. Later in life he enjoyed puttering around the house on anything mechanical, playing cards, trips to the beach and going out to breakfast with family and friends. As a member of Santa Clara Church of Christ for 60 years, the friendships Daniel made there have been a great support over these many years.

He is survived by his son Danny (wife Gail) Picker of Portland, granddaughters Terri Henderson (husband Kip) of Nevada, Amy Picker (husband Nick Nordquist) of Colorado, and 3 great grand daughters. He was preceded in death by his wife Edna, and his daughter Sharon Fraley.

Services will be held at Santa Clara Church of Christ on February 22 at 1:00 pm at 2600 Belmont, Eugene, Oregon 97404. Donations can be made to the church's Youth Program.
