Juanita Hunter Nelson

Knox County

Juanita Hunter Nelson entered this life on March 16, 1923 on the family farm just west of the Thorp community in Knox County Texas. Born to Luther and Mary Hawes Hunter she joined four sisters and one brother and would reside in Knox County early all of her 92 years. Juanita joined her heavenly Father, family, friends and the love of her life John of Wednesday, August 19, 2015.

A visitation will be held Saturday, August 22, 2015 from 5:30-7PM at McCauley-Smith Funeral Home in Munday. Funeral services will be at 2:30PM, Sunday, August 23, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Munday with Benny Archer and Joe Lowe officiating. Interment will follow in Johnson Memorial Cemetery in Munday under the direction of McCauley-Smith Funeral Home.

Juanita graduated from Knox County's Sunset High School in 1940, where she excelled in basketball, baseball and volleyball. This was the start of her great love of sports, attending nearly all of the Munday Mogul sports events over the past nine decades.

She married John Earl Nelson July 24, 1941 having known him all her life. Being war time her future in-laws took her to Abilene where she for to the train to travel to Uma, Arizona where they would marry before traveling to San Diego, California. Being wartime there were delays due to troop trains and her ride being sidetracked, she and John finally were able to meet and traveled on to California where jobs were waiting. When John entered the Army they moved with there baby daughter to Petersburg, Virginia where they remained until the end of the war when they came home to Knox County to the Nelson family farm.

Juanita spent many hours being active in her community where her artistic abilities were an asset to all. She loved people and spending countless hours helping with school activities, decorating for church dinners and many more, while sewing for her girls and helping John with family life on the farm. She also worked with her friend Irene Carl at Irene's Flower Shop where they decorated for many wedding and other activities. Later she would spend time working at Beaty's Grocery where her love of people really shown through, everyone loved to spend time visiting wither her.

She will be greatly missed by this community, her family and many friends and all the extra kids who grew up at the Nelson's home. Every one was welcome and always found a great meal and sometimes just a place to crash.

Survivors include daughters and husbands Bobbie and Bill Wright of Carrollton and Rosann and Harold Owens of Seymour, sons and wives, John Lee and Pam Nelson of McKinney and Joe Glynn and Emily Nelson of Hawley. Grandchildren; Mike Cypert and Kelly, Derek Cypert and Kathy, Charlotte Locke, Wayne Owens, Christi Adams and Shane, Cathy Barnhill and Rocky, James Nelson and Helen, Cameran Nelson and Lindsey, and Jonathan Nelson. 21 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. Also, brother-in-law Gene Thompson of Munday and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.

Donations in Juanita's memory can be made to the Munday Purple Cloud Band and the Munday Mogul Athletic Booster Club.
