Ruth Patsy Hutchens, 95, passed away August 22, 2015 in Munday, Texas.
Ruth was born February 25th, 1920 in Munday, Texas to George and Kittie (Munday) Redwine. She and Elmer Hutchens were married May 4, 1940 in Munday, Texas.
Ruth was a very caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, and wife who had deep roots in Munday and lived the majority of her life there. Ruth's grandfather, Ruben Munday, a Civil War veteran from Kentucky moved to what is now known as the town of Munday in 1887. Ruben Munday became the first Postmaster and donated land for businesses and the Church of Christ. The town of Munday was named after him. Ruth had her only son, Alan Hutchens on August 25th, 1944. Ruth was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Munday. Ruth was also very artistic and loved to draw, paint, and play music. Ruth had a deep affection for animals. During her lifetime, she rescued and cared for many dogs and cats. When Ruth was a young lady, she and her husband Elmer helped with the World War II war effort. While Elmer built bomber engines, Ruth was one of the original "Rosie the Riveters" that assembled the wings for the B-24 Liberator bomber at Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego, and later in Fort Worth, and New Orleans. After the war, they moved back to Munday and Ruth became an integral part of her husband's custom wheat harvest business by driving grain trucks and cooking for the hands. She was proud when her son, Alan, joined the family business.
Ruth was preceeded in death by her parents, George and Kittie (Munday) Redwine, her siblings, Luther Redwine, Eula Hayes, Frankie Cape, and Silas Redwine, her husband, Elmer Hutchens, her son, Alan Hutchens, and her daughter-in-law, Lila Ann Hutchens.
Ruth is survived by two grandsons, Lowell and wife Karyn Hutchens of Chandler, Oklahoma and Scott and Elisabeth Hutchens of Nacogdoches, Texas. Four great-grandsons, Hunter, Hayden, Henry, and Zachary; and two great granddaughters, Scottie and Zoey.
Funeral services will be at 11:00am on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 in the Church of Christ in Munday. Burial will follow in Johnson Memorial Cemetery under the direction of McCauley-Smith Funeral Home. The family will receive friends and family at the Church of Christ following the interment at the cemetery.
