Thomas Ceniglis Obituary

Thomas Ceniglis, Sr.

Abilene, TX

Thomas Ceniglis Sr., 84, passed away January 26, 2018. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 31, 2018 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM with a Rosary to follow at 8:00PM at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Mass of Christian Burial will be held February 1, 2018 at 10:30AM at Holy Family Catholic Church. A Committal Service will be held at 2:00PM at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene.

Tom was born in Rochester, New York to Nunzio and Carmella Ceniglis on April 24, 1933. He graduated from Saint Monica High School in Santa Monica, CA. He served in the U.S. Airforce from 1953-1957 at Goodfellow Airforce base in San Angelo, Texas where he met and married Martha Ann Bennett June 11, 1954. He also served as a police officer while they lived in San Angelo. They moved to Los Angeles and he went to work for the Firestone Corp. and 12 years later he became the Regional Director over 40 stores in the New England area. In January 1976 he moved to Abilene and purchased the Bill Ragsdale Tire Company. It then became Toms Tire World, Inc. at 701 Oak Street. Over the years the Corp. grew and at one time owned and operated 5 tire stores.

Martha Ann passed away July 3, 1976. Tom then met Reba Townsley and married on January 14, 1977. He was a very generous and outgoing man who loved his community and spending time with his family. He served on the Abilene City Council from 1987-1991, on Pastoral councils for both Sacred Heart and Holy Family Catholic churches, Ben Richey Boys Ranch president and board member, and a board member for Abilene Food Bank. He retired from Tom's Tire World in 2008.

Tom was also a very good athlete and sports enthusiast. He was both an avid baseball and football fan. He was a loyal Yankee and Rams fan. Some of his favorite memories are from when he coached little league baseball and from the friendships and relationships he had with both the coaches he was able to coach with but especially the young men he had the opportunity to get to know and coach.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 41 years, Reba; brothers, Richard Glossner, David Glossner and wife Linda, Alan Glossner and wife Jeanie, Edward Glosser Jr. and wife Joanie, Sisters, Mary Ann Frontuto, Donna Vasseur all of New York. Son, Tom Ceniglis Jr. and wife Angie, Daughters, Dani Ward and Susie White, step son, Don Clare. Grandchildren, Christopher Moore, Austen Ceniglis, Haley Ward, Aaron Ceniglis, Zane Clare, and Van Clare. Great grands, Keagan Moore, Thomas Ceniglis, and Mila Ceniglis.

We always had fun dealing with Tom at the S. 7th and Oak St. store. Even when we had a car in for only mechanical work he would try to sell us tires. Once I told him if they also did paint and body work I was sure he would try to convince me that we needed a new paint job just like he always tried to convince me that we needed a new set of tires. He had a good laugh at that. Our deepest sympathy for your loss. The Ed Cockerell Family

I am very sorry for your loss, loosing a loved one is truly a heartbreaking experience, but its uplifting to know that God promises us in Isaiah 65:17 a near future in which not only wont we feel the pain of loosing a loved one anymore but we wont even remember how it felt. Our pain will be erased and we will be happy once agai
