Frances Larragueta, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, February 9, 2011 in San Francisco. She is preceded in death by her brother Harold Larragueta and survived by her niece Julie O'Gara (Tom) and nephews Steve Larragueta (Kathy), Peter Larragueta (Julie), Michael Larragueta (Elizabeth) and sister in law, Dee Larragueta. Frances was born in Winnemucca, Nevada on April 14, 1920 and spent her formative years on a ranch a few miles outside of town. She graduated from Humboldt County High School in 1938 and the University of Nevada where she earned double Bachelors of Arts Degrees in Education and Business Administration. After graduation she worked in Reno at the Office of Price Administration. Two years later, she transferred to a position with the OPA in San Francisco. She remained in this position until the OPA was disbanded in 1947 upon which she took a position with the University of California. She worked for UCSF for 35 years, the last 25 as Chief of Staff and Assistant Dean in the medical school, having worked through the tenure of four Deans. After retirement Frances returned to Winnemucca to be with family, then returned to San Francisco. At this time she spearheaded the creation of the UCSF Retirees Association where she devoted endless energy and time serving its 800 members. She lived in the Sequoias for the last five years of her life. Frances greatly admired her family and friends. At her request, there will be a private mass in her memory for immediate family. Donations in her name may be made to a favorite charity.

I was very sad to learn that Frances passed. We became friends when I visited a friend at Sequoias in 2009. I would see her on subsequent visits. Frances was a very caring and warm person. My deepest sympathy to her family and friends.

I will always remember my dear cousin, Frances. She was always caring and called me on every holiday to wish me well, and encouraged me with helpful thoughts when I lost my husband, Ray. She will truly be missed by many. May faith, hope and love give you strength at this time. Love, Jo Anderson, La Canada, California

Dear Julie, Steve, Peter, and Michael,

We are so sorry to hear about Tia. She was a great lady and it is sad to see one more of the "old guard" pass away. Julie, you and I had so much fun staying with her in San Francisco--I will never forget it, or her kindness when both our mother, and our father passed away.

Love you all and we are thinking of you,

Kathy, Cindy, and Mickey Bidart

I am very sad to read of Frances' passing. I knew her the last few years when she came to me for her tax preparation. I always looked forward to her visits and enjoyed our conversations. She was bright, thorough, and had a twinkle in her eye. She will be well remembered.
