John Hastings Obituary

Mr. John Harry Hastings, 81, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011 at his home following an extended illness.
A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be private.
Mr. Hastings, a native of Silva, was a graduate of the University of Richmond. He worked as general manager of Lafayette Ford in Fayetteville and Cape Fear Ford in Wilmington prior to becoming a partner in Twin County Ford in Galax, Va. where he worked for a number of years. In 1970 he opened Hastings Ford in Greenville, retiring in 1999.
Mr. Hastings served on the Wachovia Bank Board of Directors. He also served on the Auto Dealers Association, National Dealer Council for Ford Motor Co. and Ford Dealer Advertising Association. He had attended St. James United Methodist Church.
Mr. Hastings was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Queenie Duval Hastings and a niece, Lori Gay Moore.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joyce Hastings; daughter, Sherry Woolard and husband, Woody, of Greenville; son, Pete McClung of Greenville; and grandchildren, Jennifer Malone and husband, Shane, Patrick McClung and wife, April, Noelle Hastings Carraway and husband, David, and Trey McClung; great-grandchildren, Victoria Hastings Alcock and Connor McClung; and sister-in-law, Sybil Dale and husband, Ted, of Greenville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scouts of America, East Carolina Council, P.O. Box 1698, Kinston, NC 28503.

Sherry and Pete, we are saddened to hear about the loss of your father. I had the pleasure to meet him years ago before he retired, and was truly impressed by him.
