GEARY

Michael Lee Geary, 61, passed away on January 12, 2009 after a lengthy illness. He was the only child of Retired USN Captain Mervyn Otis and Bette Marie Geary and was born April 8, 1947 in Walnut Creek, CA.

He was an avid golfer and traveler and enjoyed hanging out with friends and co-workers in his spare time.

He is survived by his three children, Christina (Mike) Carver, Joshua (Missy) and Megan (Ed) Hill and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A no host gathering to remember his life will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Rapscallion's at 4 p.m.

Mike did have quite the wit about him. He could be a little devil to if he wanted lol. But that is what made Mike. He was a part of my family for a long time. He will be very much missed.

Mike always said he was 'a font of useless information'. Not so! If I couldn't find an answer to a question I'd call Mike and sure enough he would know. An intelligent man with a warm heart and sense of humor. We had many laughs together over the years. Here's to you Mike, you will be greatly missed.

It was a pleasure to have known and worked with Mikey at Newmont in the late 1980's until he left. Even then, years after, I would run into him in Elko or in various places in Reno, and he was always the same happy guy. His was a gem I will carry always.

I want to thank everyone that came to Rapscallions last night to show support for my Dad. I was amazed at the turn out and it was a true testiment to how he has touched peoples lives as he made his way through his own. He will be missed.

We've known Mike for a number of years, through our association with our cooking group....the Occassional Chefs. Mike was a witty and humorous rascal, and great to have around. Great stories and a warm heart as well. Adios our friend.

Mike Geary was a great person to work with and to know in our industry. Although his background and interests were focused on geology, Mike was long recognized for an outstanding ability to help in processing environmental ativities and permits. His humor and smiley personality made people want to be around him. I always enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity to work with Mike Geary. He will be missed. I wonder if there are golf courses adjacent to those streets of gold.... If so, I think we know where to look for Mike at this time.

I was just at Rapscallions in Reno with Mike no more than a month ago. Great sense of humor, a wealth of knowledge lost. My condolences to his children and grandchildren.

Mike was an interesting mixture of political incorrectness and great humor, he could interact with almost anyone and get something done. We worked together at Pegasus and it was always interesting and entertaining. I guess he is playing golf full-time now, so, thanks for the memories.

I remember Mike as a well rounded, down to earth guy with a good sense of humor - a landman who loved the land.

Mike's wit and humor will always be remembered, he made a difficult assignment a pleasure. He was a "Trained Observer" of the first order and could find humor in just about any situation. I shared some quality time with him during difficult times. A good man and friend who I will never forget. May God keep you close and your family and friends comforted.

Mike was a good-hearted, gravel-voiced, rabble-rousing, mining-PAC buddy of mine in the early 1990s, when the ecoNazis had the "Mine Free by '93" slogan. He was one of the few guys that Royce Hackworth (Hackworth Drilling in Elko) would send one of his famous Christmas 50lb bags of salted peanuts in the off-season. Mike's office was behind mine on S. Rock Blvd; he'd knock on the back door and bring me a couple of pounds of peanuts once in a while in Spring and late Summer w/ a little grin on his face. Good huntin', old friend.

Mike was a very special person and one of the greatest guys I have had the pleasure to work with in the Nevada mining industry. Mike always brought laughter and good feelings in any of lifes situations both good and bad. I will never forget him.
