Ronald MacDonald Obituary

Ronald F. MacDonald

Sparks - Ronald F. MacDonald age 79 of Sparks, NV by way of Highland Park, Ferndale, Royal Oak, MI, Chicago, IL, Boise, Idaho, Hermosa Beach, Santa Rosa, Walnut Creek and Truckee, CA escaped this mortal realm in Fernley, NV on Saturday Feb 17th, 2018. Victoria MacDonald, his loving friend and mother of Ian MacDonald took great care of him during his courageous battle with cancer and during his final weeks and hours. Ronnie served his country as part of the U.S Navy and went on to live a full life. He often spoke of all the people and colorful characters that he was fortunate to have met thru his travels. For almost 4 decades, Ronnie held numerous positions at John Ascauga's Nugget in Sparks, NV. It was here where he would meet his nearest and dearest companions and friends that lasted his lifetime. Oh….the stories he could tell…. If you knew Ronnie, you knew how much he lived to play golf. Ronnie left behind enough golf clubs and golf items to outfit a sports store. A bad round of golf, was never his fault…it was the equipment's fault. If you loved Dinty Moore Beef Stew from the can, you were welcome to stay for dinner. If you were fortunate enough to be around after Ronnie made a visit to Chicago then you were invited to the "Blob" party a.k.a. "White Castle hamburgers" for everyone.

He is survived by his children, Michael (Jo) MacDonald of Escanaba, MI, Diana (Jim) Durso of Fox River Grove, IL, Heather MacDonald of Vilonia, AR and Ian MacDonald of Reno, NV, his sister Linda (Mark) Soper of Ortonville, MI and Larry (Lynn) Miller of Harrison, MI. Ron was grandfather to Rachael (John) Fisher, Brian MacDonald, Megan MacDonald, Amanda (Jamie) Fontana, Michael James (Joe) MacDonald, Seth MacDonald, Adam MacDonald and Jeffrey MacDonald. He was a proud Great Grandfather to Bailey Lyann MacDonald, Tegan Fontana, Seth MacDonald, Timber MacDonald, Eva Molano, Tyler MacDonald and William (Bill) Fisher expected to arrive in June. Extended family includes many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ronald MacDonald and Helen Miller.

Per Ron's request there will be no funeral or wake, cremation was his choice. He did not want a bunch of people staring at him in a casket. He would prefer you go to your favorite watering hole, where you are instructed to down a few of your favorite libations and share a story or two of the great Ronnie Mac. His presence will live on many golf courses, if you know what I mean. He will always be remembered as a larger than life personality and deeply missed by his family and friends.

Memorial donations may be made to Renown Hospice or the American Cancer Society in Ronnie's name. There will be a golf outing in Ronnie Macs honor the summer of 2018. For information on this event you may contact his golf buddy, Dennis Bisbee: [email protected]

Ronnie Mac,
You were my friend, my mentor for so long now. How I will miss our talks we used to have. I admired you more than anyone in my life these days. They say a person will have many acquaintances in their lifetime but very few friends. My mom told me that 40yrs ago, I used to not believe her but more recently I have found it to be true and Ronnie Mac was one of my few friends. I will miss you so so much. Rest in peace my dear friend you deserve it.

My Dear Brother, I'm so thankful I got to see and talk with you before you moved on. I've always admired you! Even though you tied me to the fence, so you didn't have to take me to the movies with your friends! I must of blocked it out, because I have no memory of it. I adored you! I will miss you so much! Until we meet again, SOAR! XOXOXOXO Your little sis,. Linda

Ron was such a loving & compassionate father to Ian that I felt a much deeper level of respect & love for him that I have never known. He was such a character with the best sense of humor, he had the doctors & nurses laughing at his jokes as we stumbled through his medical journey. Everyone who was fortunate enough to meet him liked him instantly, you could tell by the big smile he put on their face. I love you more than words can say, your memory will live on, not only in my heart but in my yard! Victoria :)

Dad,
I think it's safe to assume that you are already reacquainted with your Dad and your golf
com padres on the links. I am convinced that you have more than a few rounds under your belt. I envision you enjoying the hell out of your new life, and that is comforting to me.
Love you always, your daughter

Ron was a friend, a customer of my automotive business. Will always remember his old Mustang he was so proud of! One of John Asquaga's best employees ever and there were many over the years. He was the main man in the Nugget cabaret when the music was epic. We were frequent flyers when the Mission Mountain Wood Band, The Montana Band and so many other greats played there. He always put us at a great table. Will never forget one night when he came down, apologized and said he had to move us because John Ascuaga was coming to the show and we were sitting at John's favorite table. Will never forget you Ron. May you rest in peace my friend!

Dad,

I would venture to guess you have already reacquainted yourself with your Dad and your golf com-padre's who have been waiting for you on the links. I imagine you already have more than a few rounds under your belt and you are shooting@78!
I envision you enjoying the hell out of your new life and that helps me with my sorrow.
All my love always your daughter,
