Theodore Sminchak

Theodore "Ted" Sminchak, 85, of West Frankfort, passed away at 1:23 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Westside Care Center in West Frankfort, IL. He was born March 4, 1926 in Herrin, IL to Mike and Barbara Sminchak. Theodore married Velma Mary (Drew) and she preceded him in death on March 21, 2006. He attended Freeman Chapel in Freeman Spur. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Survivors include his son, Dennis (Donna) Sminchak of West Frankfort; daughters, Lola (Fred) Issacs of Thompsonville, Amy (Tim) Serena of West Frankfort, Peggy (Ed) Gardner of West Frankfort; brother, Roy (Norma) Sminchak of Collinsville, IL; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Mary Sminchak; parents; granddaughter, Lisa Ann; great-grandchildren, Zayne Serena and Madyson Darnell; sister, Lucille Barnard; brothers, Mike, Sylvester and Elmer Sminchak. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort, IL. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Rev. Bob McKnight and Rev. Clyde Dillman will be officiating. Interment will be at Denning Cemetery in West Frankfort. Memorials may be made to the Madyson Darnell Scholarship Fund.
