Darrell Yonker Obituary

Darrell H. Yonker, 87, of 231 High Ave., Ridgway, died early Tuesday morning, Oct. 20, 2015 at Penn Highlands Clearfield.
He had been a resident of Mountain Laurel Health and Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield where he had been recuperating from injuries sustained in a recent fall.
Darrell was born Feb. 27, 1928 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Herbert and Minnie M. (Yearick) Yonker.
On June 13, 1953 in the Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg, he married Lois M. Kelly, who survives.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War.
He was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church, a member of the NRA and a past member of the Rolfe Beagle Club.
He enjoyed hunting, country music and cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He volunteered as a driver for many local residents in need.
He drove a delivery truck for Bob Berger at Ridgway Wholesale Co., had worked at Ridgway Color and Chemical for 14 years, and was known to his co-workers as "Harry" when he worked at Keystone Powdered Metal where he retired after 20 years of service.
Surviving besides his wife are the following children: Bill (Karen) Yonker of Ridgway, Rita (John) Gardner of Ridgway, Mary Smith and her fiance Mark Wilson of Kane and Tom (Sandy) Yonker of St. Marys; his sister-in-law, Kathy (Francis) Griech of Ridgway; 12 grandchildren, Greg Yonker, Jennifer Wolff, Leann Manzueta, Beth Carswell, Tamaran Greenman, Karen Smith, Aaron Yonker, Jessica Yonker, Jacki Morrison, Sean Holjencin, Tricia Butynskyi and Sean Griech; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald Yonker; one sister, Karen Hannah; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Robert J. Yonker in 2011; one grandson, Eric Gardner; and one brother, Jack Yaggie.
A memorial mass for Darrell H. Yonker will be celebrated at St. Leo Catholic Church on Monday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. Officiating with be Fr. Brian E. Vossler, pastor of St. Leo Catholic Church.
Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. There will be no visitation.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. Leo Catholic Church or to St. Leo School.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Thompson Funeral Home, 136 Center St., Ridgway.
