Shirley Stanley Obituary

Shirley A. Stanley, 91, of 74 Kane St., Wilcox, and a current resident of the Lutheran Home at Kane, passed away Monday afternoon, April 21, 2025, at UPMC-Kane. Shirley was born May 20, 1933, in Wilcox, a daughter to the late Clifford and Edna Klase Nichols. On March 13, 1954, in the Wilcox Presbyterian Church, she married Ronald W. Stanley, who preceded her in death on December 16, 2020, after over 66 years of marriage.

A lifelong resident of Wilcox, Shirley was a 1951 graduate of Wilcox High School. She worked at Holgate Toys and Stackpole in Kane, Armstrong Forest Company in Johnsonburg and Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital in St. Marys, retiring in 1984 after 21 years of service working in the pharmacy.

Shirley was an active member of the Wilcox Senior Center where she enjoyed playing bingo, dominos and "Cinch". She was an active member of the Wilcox Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Dorcus Circle, the funeral dinner committee and many other activities. She loved to read and was a frequent member of the Wilcox Public Library where she would sign out 5 books at a time and have them read within a week or so and then go back to sign out five more. She also enjoyed going to play the slots at the casinos in Salamanca, NY. She also enjoyed sitting out on her front porch and talking to her neighbors and friends and working in her flower gardens around her house. Her favorite thing was spending time with her family.

Shirley is survived by a daughter Debbie O'Connell of Wilcox, two sons, Craig Stanley (Shawna) of Wilcox and David Stanley (Annie) of Williamsburg, VA, 5 grandchildren, Lori Myers of Wilcox, Lacey Neubert (Jason) of Wilcox, Keith Stanley (Jessica) of St. Marys, Tayler Stanley-Crowley (Paul) of Williamsburg, VA and Tori Carrow (Craig) of Locust Grove, VA. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, Connor Neubert, Airvanna Scarnati, Jack Crowley, Sam Crowley and Graham Carrow.

In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley is predeceased by a granddaughter Lisa O'Connell, a great-granddaughter Quinn Olivia Carrow, a sister, Donna Louise Nichols (at age 3) and a son-in-law James "Perch" O'Connell.

Shirley was the last remaining member of her family.

Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service for Shirley A .Stanley to be conducted at the Wilcox Presbyterian Church on Saturday May 3, 2025, at 11 AM with Lay Minister Robert Johnson as celebrant. Interment will be in Wilcox Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Shirley and I are cousins we graduated from Wilcox High in 1951. Shirley was 4 Mo older to the day. My sister Sandra is still alive and is 9yrs younger than us, My thoughts and prayers go with the family. May God wrap his arms around the family at this time and hold you tight.

Tayler--You took piano lessons from me many years ago. I believe I still have a mug you gave me. I met your grandma at the Lutheran Home, but didn't make any connection to you until I read today's newspaper. She ate meals and watched TV with Cheri Bloomquist, a friend of mine whom I visit there often. She was a lovely woman. So sorry for your loss.
