Arthur WILSON Obituary

Arthur Lee (AJ) Wilson Jr. , 78, of Hoges Chapel, Pembroke, departed this life Sunday morning, September 29, 2013, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke after a lengthy illness. AJ was born on July 8, 1935, in Giles County, a son of the late Arthur Lee Sr. (Ott) and Pearl Collins Wilson. He was retired from Virginia Tech and had been employed at Foote Mineral Co at Kimballton and at Boxley Quarries at Lynchburg. He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Robert and Esther Lafon Robertson; his brothers-in-law, Sam Green, Edward Robertson; and his sisters-in-law, Barbara Phelps and Florida Robertson. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 56 years, Mae Robertson Wilson; his son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Sharon Wilson, of Pembroke; his grandchildren, Brittany and Ryan Gilmer, Jacoby Wilson; great-grandchild, Chance Gilmer; his sister Patricia W. Green, of Pembroke; his brothers-in-law, James Robertson, of Rustburg, Wayne Phelps (Nancy), of Concord; sister-in-law, Peggy Robertson, of Salem; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; special grandpuppies, Bam Bam and Pebbles.
He dearly loves his family, the special times spent on the beach at Nags Head, taking care of his yard and his beloved Christmas decorations that lit up Hoges Chapel. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved to talk to his many friends who stopped by and talked with him as he sat on his rock wall waiting for them to come by. His friends at the flea markets will miss his wit and good humor.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Pembroke Christian Church with Pastor Reggie Britts, Pastor Gary Poff, and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m.
The family respectfully suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Pembroke Christian Church or Giles High School Athletic Fund. Online condolences may be sent by visiting kendallfuneralhome.com.
