Billy McPherson

December 29, 1936 - November 30, 2024

Billy Burch "BB" McPherson, 87, of New Castle, VA, passed away on November 30, 2024, at his home. Born on December 29, 1936, to the late Harry McPherson and Mae Paitsel McPherson in Craig County, VA.

In addition to his parents, BB was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 40 years, Jennifer Carper McPherson; and siblings, Betty McMahan and husband, Don, Polly All, Gene McPherson, and Luther McPherson.

Left to cherish his memory include his children, Donna M. Jones and husband, Mike, and Randy McPherson; his adored grandson, Hunter Jones; brothers, Freddie McPherson (Barbara) and Dan McPherson (Linda), his brother-in-law, Reginald; sister-in-law, Pam; and numerous nieces and nephews.

For over three decades, BB devoted himself to the safety and well-being of the Craig County community as the esteemed Sheriff, serving from January 1, 1972, until his retirement on December 31, 2003. A patriot at heart, he also served his country faithfully in the United States Army, a testament to his selfless nature. Mr. McPherson was also a member of the Craig County Rescue Squad. BB's gentle demeanor and dedication to duty made a lasting impression on all those he worked alongside.

BB had a boundless passion for the outdoors, embracing every occasion to hunt and immerse himself in nature. His ability to brighten the lives of the children he met was incomparable, and his grandson, Hunter, remained the light of his life. BB's legacy is one of compassion, kindness, and an enduring commitment to his family and community.

A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at the Paitsel Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Mike Bowman officiating. Burial will follow at Huffman Memorial Park, where military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Army and VFW Post 4491.

Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the funeral home.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to all caregivers and everyone who was there for BB during his last days.
