Carlton Viar Obituary

Carlton L. Viar, 88, of Tamarack Drive, Bluefield, W.Va., died Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born March 22, 1923, in Roanoke, he was a son of the late George R. Viar and Laura Rettinger Viar. Mr. Viar was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the Army with the Railroad Battalion. He served in Italy, Germany, Algiers and France. He retired from Norfolk & Western Railway as a Roundhouse Foreman after 41 years of service. Mr. Viar had been a resident of Bluefield for over 50 years and was a member of Bluefield Community Church. He was also a lifelong member of the Bluefield Elks Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joye Wade Viar; one brother, Roland Viar; ad one sister, Mary Jane Finnell. Survivors include one daughter, Faye Louthan and husband, Chuck, of Bluefield; son, Carlton L. Viar Jr. and wife, Patti, of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren, Scott Louthan and wife, Beth Kelli, Stacy Louthan, Kelli Anne Louthan, Heather Viar Leas and husband, Daniel, Erika Viar Brand and husband, Daniel, and Katherine Viar; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. Ben and Janice Wade; nieces and nephew, Buzz Finnell, Sue Finnell, and Laura Hall; special pet, Roscoe; and special friend and encourager, Ann Williams. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 29, 2011, from 11 a.m. until noon at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Services will follow at noon with the Rev. Mike Baker officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Bluefield Community Church, P.O. Box 330, Bluefield, VA 24605.
