Robert N. Harry, 74, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, November 11, 2022, after a hard-fought battle with Parkinson's and Lewy Body Dementia.
Bob was born in Tazewell, VA, on December 16, 1947, to Virginia (Neel) and Robert Harry. He graduated from Tazewell High and completed two years at Bluefield College, before being drafted into the United States Army in 1968. He enlisted and was stationed in Germany for most of his service as part of the USASA, of which he was incredibly proud. He spent some time in Montana before returning home to Virginia to complete his degree in Political Science at Emory and Henry College in 1975.
He worked for the Boy Scouts of America before starting his career at US Gypsum. He worked in Alabama and Florida, before landing in Chicago, where he met his wife, Ginni. They spent 10 years in Chicago with their beloved dogs, Ashby and Zuzu, before retiring to Roanoke in 2007. For the last 15 years, he and Ginni traveled the world, spent time with family and friends, and worked on fun projects for his grandchildren.
Bob was loved by all. He was a true Southern gentleman, with quick wit and intelligence. He had a deep appreciation for history and enjoyed sharing facts and stories.
He is survived by his wife, Ginni; his sister, Judith (Richard) Lallmang; children, Justin and Elizabeth (Josh); stepchildren, Karin (Scott), Scott, and Stacy; and grandchildren, Elise, Taylor, Benjamin, and Zachary.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 12 noon on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at Oakey's South Chapel. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.Oakeys.com.

I spent several great years with Bob in Jacksonville, Florida. He had a great sense of humor and it was fun being around him. Bob helped me through a difficult time in my life. If I was having a rough day or feeling depressed, Bob could always get me smiling or laughing in no time. We used to go golfing and he was absolutely terrible, but it was so much fun just to hang around him, listen to his stories, and enjoy his humor. We would occasionally visit the local Outback after work and enjoy some beers. We normally, or maybe I, started out complaining about something, but in no time Bob would have me laughing about something. He had a way of making me feel better every time we would get together. I am so sad to hear he has passed away. I am so grateful I had the opportunity to know him and spend time with him.
