Carl B. Smith, 81, a lifelong farmer from Monterey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at his home. All of his crops were in and now he will be checking the pivots from Heaven.
Carl was born March 7, 1944 in Rochester, to the late Bernard H. and Sarah E. [Wagoner] Smith. He grew up in rural Monterey and graduated from Monterey High School in 1962 where he was an officer in the local FFA chapter. He was proud to be a farmer and took over operations with his brother while in high school. After graduation, he served in the Army National Guard for six years. On December 7, 1968, he married the love of his life, Doris E. Hinderlider, at the First Christian Church in Winamac. Carl and Doris shared 56 years of life together.
Carl was a proud supporter of local businesses and his community. He served many years on the Fulton County REMC board of directors. He was a founding member of Chapter 33 of the Red Power Roundup. Carl was also a member of the Northern Indiana Power from the Past and helped start the annual toy show. He enjoyed spending time with his power show family. Carl was an avid collector of farm toys and antique tractors/equipment, as well as an assortment of other "treasures."
Carl was a loving and devoted husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa. He cherished time spent with his family, especially pontoon rides with them at Lake Bruce. He loved taking the kids for ice cream and a cruise around the lake in the '69 Chevy Impala Convertible. Carl will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
