Mathew Wayne Dimond, 57, passed away at home April 29, 2025, in Rochester.
Born on Nov. 1, 1967, in San Francisco, Calif., Matt lived a life marked by deep loyalty to his loved ones, a sharp wit, and a passion for good food and great company.
Matt graduated from the University of the Pacific in Stockton with a Bachelor of Arts in Business. He went on to work for many chain restaurants and companies as a regional manager and worked 60 hours a week at a minimum. Those who knew him best remember him as a gifted chef and baker whose culinary talents brought joy to many. Whether preparing meals for friends or experimenting with new recipes, Matt's kitchen was always a place of warmth and creativity.
He had an enduring love for dogs – especially his beloved companions Dora, Blue, Cinder and Buster. Matt found solace and joy in their presence. A frequent visitor and bartender at Bogart's in California, Matt cherished the time spent there with the extended "family" he came to know and love. He appreciated the finer things in life but never felt compelled to own them; instead, he found richness in experiences and relationships.
Matt was known for his dry sense of humor and unwavering loyalty to those he cared about. His circle of special friends included "The Wild Boys" – you know who you are – as well as the Henry family, the St. Johns, and many others from Bogart's who became like family over the years.
He held no bitterness from past chapters of his life. Though divorced early from Tena Anderson Dimond, they remained friends until the end – a testament to Matt's generous spirit and capacity for lasting connection.
Matt is survived by his father Robert Dimond and mother Carol "Cookie" Dimond; his brothers V. Scott Dimond and Nick Dimond; sisters-in-law Liane and Aurele Dimond; nephews Erik, Curby, Anselm, and Lucas Dimond; Nieces Lily and "Lia" Louise Dimond; great-niece Aurora Diaz; aunt Gloria "Doodie" Carvey; and cousins Lisa, Shane and Jack Reffett.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Elizabeth and Stan Bartleman and Vernon and Gladys Dimond; as well as his cousin Stacey Carvey.
Matt's absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew him. His memory will live on through shared stories, cherished meals and drinks, laughter among friends and the quiet moments that remind us of his unique presence.
When we meet again, we will lift a glass of Captain and Coke, make sure Scott has a bottle of Sailor Jerry and a pen to entertain us with his works of art and talk through all the dumb things we did in this life. Until then, I will share stories about you with my kids and your memory will live forever in our hearts. God Bless and Godspeed.
