We’ve only known Rusty and Laurie for a short time as neighbors in Arizona but our hearts go out to family and friends. Rusty was generous to a fault with his knowledge and stories. We know there has to be millions of loving memories in the hearts of those who were close to him. Remember those moments and cherish them.
Sincere sympathy and love and prayers are yours.

My condolences to the family. Rusty was an excellent employee at the Kalamazoo County Sheriffs office and a great friend. Rusty was always fun to be around and he regularly made my day. He was a trusted employee and duty bound to serve and protect the citizens of Kalamazoo County. Rusty was always willing to take on difficult tasks and viewed as a go-to man in difficult times. Our future memories of Rusty will provide many of us with lots of laughs and good thoughts . Great memories are one of the most valuable assets one can leave his/her family and friends.
I am so thankful to the family for sharing Rusty with us as a co-worker and friend for so many years.
Ours thoughts and prayers for the family .
May he rest in peace.

My deepest sympathies to Laurie and Derek and the rest of the family. I got to know them all thru coaching Derek in high school golf. He and Laurie did so much for the team and it was a pleasure to get to know him and become a friend. It's been so fun talking with him and Laurie about Derek's progress and how proud he was of his son and his golf career. I am truly sorry to hear of this and my heart goes out to you all! jd

Rusty was a coworker at KCSD and a good friend. Rusty always treated everyone with courtesy and respect. He was involved as a member of the FOP Lodge 98 often taking on voluntary tasks and serving as a board member. He was a true "Good of the order" person. He had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. Rusty will be missed most by his family who he cherished. Next he will be missed by all who knew him. KCSD was a better place because of Rusty's many years of service and also the community. May he now rest in peace in the Kingdom of Heaven.
