Ruth E. Norman, 89, of Akron, passed peacefully at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 8, 2024 at her residence.
Ruth was born on Sept. 29, 1934 in Ivyton, Magoffin County, Kentucky to the late Otto and Elloree (Hopkins) Fletcher. They moved to Indiana when she was just 2 weeks of age. She was a graduate of Burket High School. Ruth married the love of her life, Oren D. Norman, on July 11, 1953 in Athens. They spent 69 years together until his passing on July 13, 2022.
She and her husband built a family together. Surviving Ruth are her sons Richard Norman, Mike Norman, and Arthur and wife Melissa Norman all of Akron; daughter Becky and husband Gordon Rust of Seymour; granddaughters Leslie Rust and Hailee Norman; daughter-in-law Leisa Norman of Mentone; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother as well as her parents and husband Oren.
Ruth helped on the farm milking cows, raising chickens, and maintained a large garden to can and freeze produce. She also worked as a data entry clerk for Rochester Metal Products, retiring after 9 and a half years.
She was a longtime active member of the Pleasant Hill Church. She enjoyed being in her kitchen making noodles, bread, pies, and cookies and relaxing by reading.
The funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, Indiana with Rev. Wayne Balmer officiating.
The interment will take place following the service in the Akron Cemetery, Akron.
Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.
