James Allen "Jim" Maxwell obituary, Punta Gorda, GA

James Maxwell Obituary

On July 28th, 2025, James Allen Maxwell passed away at home in Punta Gorda, Florida. James, also known as Jim or Jimmy, was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on March 28, 1942 to James Sydney Maxwell and Martice Dobbins Maxwell. He was raised in Tuscaloosa and graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in 1960. Jim continued his education at the University of Alabama, earning a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was also a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. After graduating from college, he joined the Army and served overseas.

James Allen Maxwell married Mary Ann Herman. The couple lived in various places throughout the United States while Jim served in the US ARMY. The couple settled in Conyers, Georgia, where they remained for over 50 years. Jim worked for Georgia Power/Southern Company Services until his retirement.

He enjoyed serving the community through various organizations such as the Optimist Club, Rotary Club, and volunteering for Habitat for Humanity Store. His favorite hobbies were reading, taking long walks, drinking coffee at Starbucks and working outside their home in Conyers. He enjoyed visiting Seaside Florida, and the North Georgia Mountains. Jim was also an avid Alabama football fan and enjoyed visiting family and friends in Tuscaloosa- ROLL TIDE!

Jim is survived by his daughter, Julianna Herman Maxwell, and his granddaughter, Emily Marie Johnson. He is also survived by his sisters Carolyn Maxwell Anders, and Barbara Maxwell SaPereira. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Maxwell, and his parents, James Sydney Maxwell and Martice Dobbins Maxwell. Services will be held on August 23rd at 11am in Westervelt-Warnen Chapel at First Presbyterian Church of Tuscaloosa.
