James and Sally Cooley Obituary

James "Jim" Warren Cooley, 83, of Keezletown, VA passed away Monday, August 11, 2025, at his home. Jim was born May 21, 1942 in Harrisonburg and was the son of the late DeWitt Reherd Cooley Sr. and Eleanor Vehrencamp Cooley. Jim graduated from Montevideo High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he moved back to the valley and owned a Montogomery Ward franchise before beginning his long career at Kawneer Company, from which he retired in 1998. Jim was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He volunteered for the U.S. Forest Service at Lake Moomaw. He loved fishing and golfing and was able to enjoy those activities year-round when he wintered in Florida for 14 years during retirement. He is remembered for his business acumen for managing real estate and automobile dealings. Jim was known to coworkers, customers, friends and family as James, Jim, Cooley, Punk or Punkin over his lifetime. In addition to his father and mother, Jim is preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Page Miller Cooley (m. 1964; d. 1975); second wife, Sally Ann Green Cooley (m. 1981; d. 2024); sister, Clara Cooley; son, James "Jimmy" Cooley, II; and grandson, Joshua Cooley. Jim is survived by his brother, D.R. Cooley, Jr. and wife, Janet, of Rockingham; sister, Doris Schuck and husband, Lou Murray, of Keezletown; son, Chris Cooley and wife, Jonni, of Keezletown; grandchildren, Madison Cooley, Cameron Cooley, Jade Cooley-Barb and husband, Allan Barb; and great grandson, Aydin Barb. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. Burial will be held privately and at a later date. The family would like to thank Hospice for the comfort and care provided to Jim over the past year and to friends and family for their love and support for both Jim and Sally throughout their lives. In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society by visiting https://donate.cancer.org/ __ Sally Ann Green Cooley, 76, of Keezletown, VA, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at the Harbor at Renaissance in Stanardsville, VA. Sally was born December 31, 1948, in Edmonton, A.B., Canada, the daughter of Harold and Agnus Green. Sally graduated from Turner Ashby High School, then went on to Madison College. In 1971, Sally became an American citizen. She spent her career working at Kawneer Company. Sally married Jim Cooley on April 11, 1981. Sally was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She volunteered for the U.S. Forest Service at Camp Moomaw. Sally was a talented photographer. She enjoyed spending time in Florida for 14 winters. Sally is remembered for her kindness and her caring demeanor. She was sweet, loving, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Preceding Sally in death is father, Harold and mother, Angus; brother Gary and sister-in-law, Jenine Green; brother, Dennis and sister-in-law, Doris Green; sister-in-law, Clara Cooley; step-son, James Warren Cooley, II and grandson Joshua Cooley. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Harbor at the Renaissance for the care they provided and Salley's friends and family for their support throughout her life.
