Stephanie Blackburn Obituary

Stephanie Elizabeth Blackburn, 34, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014.
A kind and loving soul, Stephanie dedicated much of her life to helping others in many ways. She seemed to naturally gravitate towards those in need, seeking avenues with which she could serve her fellow man. Habitat for Humanity, United Community Ministries, and family support organizations were just a few causes she embraced. She had a sincere desire to listen to others and offer insight to many friends who easily confided in her. She was an avid baker, talented poet and artisan and had an imagination that helped foster a love for the futuristic science and technology of her favorite science fiction stories. She also enjoyed being a member of the Tar River Orchestra and Chorus League.
Stephanie is survived by her loving parents, Reuben G. "Ben" and Elizabeth D. Blackburn, of Rocky Mount; devoted fiancée, David Brooks Vick of Rocky Mount; brothers, Lewis E. Blackburn and his wife, Christina of Centennial, CO, and Dana Newsome of Wilmington; sister, Maria Lynne Graham of Winston-Salem; maternal grandmother, Helen Deal of Rocky Mount; nieces, Taylor, Kaitlynn and Eryn; uncle and aunt, Edward and Cheryl Blackburn; aunt and uncle, Anne and Leo Cox, all of Marion, SC,along with a host of friends and extended relatives.
A celebration of her life will take place at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Southside Baptist Church, Rocky Mount. Friends are invited to visit the family prior to the service, 12:30 - 2:00 p.m.
