Daniel Lewis Josie

Mr. Daniel Lewis Josie, age 86, of Rome, GA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2023, from injuries sustained from a fall on March 19, 2023.

Mr. Josie was born on May 19, 1936, in Orange, NJ, son of the late Lewis Josie and the late Anna Jackson Josie. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte Graves, and a nephew, Lewis Graves. Mr. Josie was a graduate of Coral Gables High School. After high school Mr. Josie served in the Civil Air Patrol and enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserves for many years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having been active for a number years and receiving the "Good Conduct" Medal. Mr. Josie worked for over 30 years as an aircraft mechanic at Robins Air Force Base before his retirement. After his retirement, he held numerous jobs including stints at Jennings Funeral Home, driving a charter bus and a school bus driver for years with Unity Christian School and St. Mary's Catholic School. Mr. Josie was a Mr. Fix-it who loved to work with his hands. He was known to push people's buttons in jest and was an animal lover through and through. Mr. Josie loved to talk to people and was known to tell a few tall tales every now and then. He loved deeply and to know Mr. Josie was to love him. Mr. Josie was a member of the American Legion Post #136 in Lindale and a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Lindale.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn Collins Josie, Rome, to whom he was married on November 30, 1996; 2 children, Teresa Pickett (John), Warner Robbins, and Michael Josie; 5 grandchildren, Jed Pickett (Whitney), Joshua Pickett (Gabbi), Jordan Pickett (Abbey), Cameron Josie and Hunter Josie; 2 great-granddaughters, Kailynne Pickett and Addison Pickett; 2 great-nephews, Josie Graves and Dylan Graves; special cousins, April Conner (Brandon), and their children, Allie Conner and Myles Conner; and numerous other cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with his Pastor, the Rev. Eric Whelchel, officiating. The American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard will present Military honors.

The family will receive friends from 12pm until 2pm on Tuesday at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.

In accordance with his wishes, following the services Mr. Josie will be cremated and interred at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA, at a later date.

His wife, Lynn, would like to give a great big thank you to the ER Trauma team and the ICU team at Atrium Health-Floyd for the care and compassion they showed to the family from the time he was admitted until the morning of his passing. The family was kept informed and the staff was very attentive to the family's needs. The family could not have asked for better care for Mr. Josie.
