Jane CAVANESS Obituary

Jane Finley Cavaness, age 64, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2025. She is survived by her son Adam. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Jeffrey Cavaness and parents Keith and Betty Finley. She is also survived by her sisters, Florence Finley Milway, Mary Finley Niedrach and a whole host of nieces and nephews.

Jane was born December 16, 1960 in Chattanooga and grew up in Rome. She attended Berry Academy where she was the valedictorian. She studied at Georgia Tech and graduated from Belhaven College. She holds a graduate degree from Reformed Theological Seminary in Christian Education.

She served as a children's minister at several churches before returning to Rome. She worked with foster and adoptive families at DFACs. Janes last job was with Berry College as Director of the Early Learning Center at South Rome. She cherished her teachers and children alike.

Jane was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church. She taught 4th-grade Sunday School for many years until her final illness. Many children remember "Miss Jane" telling a Bible story more riveting than any book they had read.

Her greatest joy was her family. Jeff and Adam were her whole world and her whole heart.

A celebration of Jane's life will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, June 3 with visitation at 3:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall and service at 4:00 pm. Donations could be made to a charity that uplifts children.

Jane was one of my students at Berry Academy Middle School. We walked together in Narnia, which was how Berry felt to me in those amazing days. it was a magical time.

Jane was a wonderful lady with humor, grace, compassion and love. She cared deeply for others and did her best to make life better for those in need around her. Jane could always make me laugh- even in the tense situations we sometimes encountered. Heaven gained a precious soul and I know her husband was waiting to greet her. Rest in peace and know that you made a difference in this big world. Love and prayers of comfort to Adam and the rest of the family. My condolences, Arleen Wallace

There is no flower as beautiful as my friend Jane's heart. She passed that on to you Adam and I pray you are all right and know that I am thinking of you. So very sorry. Your mother personified God's grace on this earth for me and loved you above all. May God bless you in these next hard days with His peace and if you are ever in Dburg please call me. Luce Overall

Mrs. Jane you will be truly missed at AKD. You were the cozy face I saw each morning as I entered the building and many days you let me in because I never have my badge. Take your rest job well done!
