Barbara Smith Obituary
Barbara was born in Utica on May 26, 1944, a daughter of Edward and Dorothy M. Wells Zemenz. During her youth, she moved with her family from Utica to Forestport, where she completed her education, graduating from Forestport Central School with the Class of 1961. Later, Mrs. Smith was elected to the office of Forestport Town Clerk, an office that she held for many years, faithfully serving her community.
Barbara was united in marriage with Gary James Smith. A veteran of the Vietnam Era, Mr. Smith passed away on April 14, 2006.
She enjoyed doing puzzles and playing board games.
Barbara is survived by her children, Kathryn (Kirk) Dudek, Dansville, NY, Jocasa Relf, Longs, South Carolina, Jeffrey (Jill) Broadbent, Rome, NY and Corina Howland, Forestport, NY; 12 grandchildren, Amanda, Brandon, Caleb, Dustin, Matthew, Leah, Sydney, Connor, Sierra, Kaylee, Joshua and Abby; and several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Addelaide Mae Taylor, and by a brother, Ronald Zemenz.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025 at 1 p.m. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St., Boonville, where her son-in-law, Pastor Kirk Dudek, will officiate and where calling hours will be Friday from 11 a.m. until the services. Interment will follow in Beechwood Cemetery, Forestport.
