Gerald Porcelli Obituary
Utica, NY
Mr. Gerald Porcelli, 85, of Utica, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2024 at his home with those who cared deeply for him by his side.
Gerald was born in Utica, NY on May 16, 1938, the son of the late James and Rita (Cantore) Porcelli. He attended Utica schools and graduated from Proctor High School. As a youth he was active in The Boy Scouts of America achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He was also a Brotherhood member of The Order of Arrow, an honor scout society. Gerald graduated from Utica College majoring in American History. On June 20, 1959, he was united in marriage to the late Beverly Cimino at Historic Old St. John's Church located in Utica.
Choosing teaching as his career, he taught Social Studies at New York Mills school district and served as a chairperson of the Social Studies department, in which he retired from in 1993. Gerald also served in the United States Army Reserves for 30 years retiring as a Lt. Col. During his military service he served during the Cuban refugee crisis with the 414th Civil Affairs Company as its company commander. He was a former member of the American Legion Post 1376.
Surviving family members include his three daughters, Gina Porcelli (Becky Sadlon), Cheryl (Santo) Saporito, Natalie (Jim) Houck; grandchildren, Stephanie, Tiffanie and Stephen Saporito, and James Houck; brother, Dan (Edna) Porcelli. He also leaves behind his furry companion, 'Brandy", who brought him so much joy. He was predeceased by his wife, Beverly on December 29, 2023.
Gerald's family wishes to extend their gratitude to his home caretakers; Shelley, Molly, Niki, Jan, Brenda, Helen, Bill and Alexis for their wonderful care and compassion and allowing him to live out his days in his home.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday January 5, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Dimbleby Funeral Homes, Inc., 40 Main St., Whitesboro. Funeral services will commence at the conclusion of calling hours. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery Mausoleum
In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Gerald's name may be made to Anita's Steven Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio St., Utica, NY, 13502 or Boys Scouts of America, Leatherstocking Council, 1401 Genesee St., Utica, NY 13501. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
