James Hover Obituary

James F. Hover Jr., 86 passed away unexpectedly on his birthday October 9, 2024, surrounded by family.

Jim was born in Cohoes, NY to James and Kathryn Hover. They relocated to Stittville when he was 12 years old. He graduated from Holland Patent High School in 1957. On July 11,1959 Jim married the love of his life Eileen at St. Patrick's Church in Watertown, NY, which started a loving union of 65 years. Jim and Eileen went on to raise their two daughters Leslie and Cathryn. Jim retired from Marcy State Hospital in 1991 after 30+ years of service.

During his time there Jim started in food service as a cook and ended as a therapy aide where he most enjoyed working in surgery and central supply. After retirement, Jim and Eileen enjoyed their winter home in Melbourne, Florida where they met many wonderful friends. While summering in New York, Jim enjoyed coffee with "The Town Father's", Scrapping, and selling Kinco gloves. Jim bowled for many years at Riverside Lanes on Tuesday nights. He was also the #1 fan of his daughter's high school sports days. Those who knew Jim considered him a friend for life.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Eileen, his daughters Leslie Wheeler, and Cathryn (Robert) Walker, all of Stittville. Jim was the proud grandfather of James (Andrea) Wheeler of Copenhagen, Erica Wheeler of Stittville, and Hannah (Joshua) Lasher of Floyd. Additionally, he is survived by his great-grandchildren Maddison, Chase, and Hudson Wheeler, and Bennett, and future great-granddaughter Myla Lasher. Jim is also survived by his sister Janie Czajkowski, and nephews, Steven (Tina) and James (Laura) all of Virginia. Jim considered all his nieces and nephews as his own. Jim was predeceased by his parents, infant daughter Laurie, and son-in-law Earl "Duke" Wheeler.
