Megan Elizabeth Roberts, 36, of Oneida, was called home to Our Lord on June 3, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer with her loving husband, parents and in-laws by her side. Her beautiful story included being a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend who will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
Megan was born on April 4, 1988, in Hamilton, New York to Bob and Debbie Grems. She graduated from Oneida High School in 2006 and went on to attend Mohawk Valley Community College, where she met her future husband. She attended Niagara University and Utica College with her childhood friend, Alissa Jones, where she obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education with a minor Special Education. She worked many years at the Community Bank in Oneida, eventually transitioning home full-time to begin her dream career of being a mother to her seven children.
Megan was united in marriage to Brian Roberts on July 10, 2010. They planted their roots in Oneida, where they raised their beautiful children. She was a dedicated mother who instilled the basics of religion in her children, took pride in their accomplishments, loved attending sporting events, concerts and always made sure the kids had matching outfits for church and any special event they were attending. Megan took pleasure in making sure her children enjoyed the magic and beauty of life. Holidays were always celebrated with matching pjs, shirts and any kind of holiday apparel that was always documented with a family photo. All Saints Day was celebrated with matching themes; each child had a role, as did Megan. Saint Nicholas's day was always celebrated with the children waking up to their shoes filled with gold coins, religious toys and the start of Advent where the Shepard came to watch over the children for the remaining weeks. Saint Patrick's Day was celebrated with everything green, including footprints of the leprechaun. Christmas traditions were spent celebrating Midnight Mass and with early morning gifts. Memories of camping, fishing, vacations and family get-togethers will be cherished forever.
Megan, a devoted Catholic, was a member of the Lady of Good Counsel Church in Verona and the Altar Rosary Society. She attended the Traditional Latin Mass at 8 a.m. with our beloved Reverend Edmund Castronovo. A special thank you to Father Castronovo for all the home and hospital visits with the Blessed Sacrament.
Megan leaves behind her beloved husband, Brian Roberts; her children, Declan, Finley, Liam, Colin, MaryGrace, Madeline and Patrick Roberts; her parents, Bob and Debbie Grems; her grandparents, Gary and Eleanor Grems; a sister, Jessica Grems; a brother, Brian Grems; beloved nieces and nephews, Kaitlyn Grems and Matthew Santy; and many others, aunts and uncles, cousins, several loved in-laws, including parents, brothers and sisters.
Megan was blessed with many miracles along the way as she fought her battle. Being diagnosed at 19 weeks of pregnancy, with 6 rounds of chemotherapy and prayers to St. Philomena, she continued to carry her child to full term and gave birth to their miracle baby, Patrick Peyton. With the odds against her, Megan continued to surprise her doctors and continued her fight to gain months, weeks, days, hours and minutes to be here with her children.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Megan's doctors, who cared for her during her battle. This includes: Dr. Vanderhoof, Dr. Ruddy, Dr. Nesbitt, Dr. DiGennaro and Dr. Sousou, who have been more than just doctors to our family. Another special thank you to all of the nurses on the 4th floor at Oneida Healthcare who cared for her during her last days. You brought nothing but comfort and support to her and her family and it will always be remembered.
A very heartfelt thank you to the family, friends and community members who wrapped their arms around this beautiful family during this battle with phone calls, texts, monetary donations, food, clothing, care for the children and being an extra hand to help in any way to relieve the pain and suffering this family has endured.
During Megan's final days she wanted everyone to never question the Lord's plan for us all. She was an example and constant reminder, as we all will be called Home to be with Our Lord, and this was her time to carry the cross in grace and be an inspiration to so many.
"Stay with me, Lord, for it is You alone I look for, Your Love, Your Grace, Your will, Your Heart, Your Spirit, because I love You and ask no other reward but to love You more and more."
Calling hours will be 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, 260 Main St. Oneida, NY 13421. A Latin Mass of Christian Burial will be held, Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Oneida with the Revered Edmund Castronovo, officiating.
