Alvin Nelson Obituary
Major Alvin R. Nelson, 94, of Rockford, passed away on July 10, 2017. He was born on April 5, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Alvin R. and Lucile (Tapp) Nelson. He married Elsie Mattson on November 7, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois. Alvin attended Wright Jr. College and The Salvation Army School for Officers Training in Chicago. He was an active officer and minister with The Salvation Army since 1944. Survivors include his son, David (Sharon); grandson, Eric (Elin); granddaughter, Meaghan Zegar (Mike); great grandchildren Tyler, Miles, and Julia Nelson, and Breckin Zegar. He is predeceased by his wife, parents, brother, William and sister, Gladys.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at The Salvation Army Rockford Temple Corps, 500 S. Rockford Ave., with Colonel Thomas Lewis officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Private burial will be at Glen Oak Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army Rockford Temple Corps.
