Daniel Snider Obituary

DANIEL E. SNIDER, 70 ROCKFORD - Daniel Eugene Snider, 70, of Rockford, died at 11:06 p.m. Sunday, December 6, 2015, at Swedish American Hospital ER. Born December 4, 1945, in Rockford. His parents were William C. and Erma P. Verstraete Snider. Married to Sheila Kathryn (Rohr) Schepley in Rockford on May 19, 1990. He retired after 45 years as former part owner and President of Pierce Laminated Products. Member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Architectural Woodwork Institute, St. Joseph and Sons Missionary Group, International Management Council. We had to say "goodbye" to one of the most caring and generous men we have ever known. Our Dad/Stepdad passed away unexpectedly and we are now overcome with heartache. The love he had for his family was immeasurable and we are all grateful that we were part it. Dad/Dan was so proud of his family and couldn't get enough of his grandchildren. Whether it was watching baseball, softball, soccer, dance competitions, basketball, track and robotics, he took great pride in supporting his grandchildren. Dad/Dan loves his professional sports too. Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls and throw in his favorite collage team, The Fighting Illini!! He retired in fine fashion and took up ballroom dancing with his wife, Sheila. They enjoyed going to dance competitions and won several awards. But, the most memorable event of late was a 1 week Alaskan Cruise to celebrate his and Sheila's 25th Wedding Anniversary with the entire family!! Survivors include his wife, Sheila; Judy Johnson, the mother of his 4 daughters; Jennifer (David) Lindgren and Mindy (Brian) Brown, both of Winnebago, Carrie (Jason) TerHorst of Peyton, Colorado, Kristy (Mike) Hook of Wilton, IA. , Mary Schepley Bartelson of Machesney Park and his son, Jim Schepley of Rockford. Sisters, Kathleen Tubbesing and Laureen Snider of Rockford. Brothers-in-law; Chuck Brady, Mike (Bonnie) Rohr and John (Debbie) Rohr. Grandchildren;Meggan, Catie, Nathan and Collin Hook, Krista and Alex Bartelson, Jimmy and Joe Schepley, T J, Allison and Spencer Lindgren, Scott, Abby and Emma Brown and Hunter and Sawyer TerHorst. Predeceased by his parents, sister, Nancy Brady and his brother, Jimmy Foss. Funeral Mass at Holy Family Catholic Church on Friday, December 11, 2015, at 10 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. Visitation also from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. including Rosary at Julian-Poorman-Welte on Thursday, December 10, 2015. I am sorry to hear about Dans passing. I remember him because he was like a cousin thru marriage. Dan was always fun and a real family guy. Jeannine Snider.

Sheila, Diane and I send our condolences to you and your family. We had such a wonderful time with you and Dan in the Washington DC area for lunch. We were inspired to purchase the CHIP books and modify our diets and lifestyles. Dan was such a kind and enthusiastic person. Best regards, Mark and Diane Freeland, Baltimore.

We are so sorry to hear about your loss. I will always remember Dan coaching softball when I played with (and against) Mindy. I am sure he was just as enthusiastic cheering all his grandkids as he was as cheering on his kids.

May all of your happy memories comfort your family in this time of sadness. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Jenny, Mindy, and the Snider family,

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Dan. My best recollection of him is from coaching/refereeing softball. He was always so nice and giving of his time. May your memories help you get through the tough times.

I remember Dan as a kind, he always had good things to say to and about others. Dan was gentle with how he treated people, never a harsh word or anything not kind. Dan was generous with his time. When something needed to be done, Dan could be counted on to get the job done in a first class manner. Dan was always there giving a helping hand to get the job done. There is no better friend then Dan.
Sincerely, RonH

I will remember Dan as a great uncle who always came to play with us kids. He was goofy and always had fun things for us to do. I pray for his spirit and for aunt Sheila during these times. May we all find peace. Aloha!

We at the "y" will miss Dan. He was so gracious and kind. He and his wife also added much fun in learning how to eat properly thru the C.H.I.P. program. I must thank him for hiring all of my sons and teaching them a trade. His and wife and he welcomed us into his extra family. Karen Swenson
