Devin Buss Obituary

DEVIN SKY BUSS, 12, LOVING SON AND BROTHER PECATONICA - Devin Sky Buss, 12, life-long resident of Pecatonica left his life too early on March 15, 2008, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born Feb. 16, 1996, in Rockford, the son of Darla Buss and Kevin Buss. Devin was a huge sports fan, playing every game with the perseverance that made him a star on the football field, basketball court and baseball diamond. He was an All Star and Hall of Famer and earned numerous awards and honors. Devin played everyday as if there were no second half, and lived his life with dignity and respect, and died in the same way. He was an active member of the Pecatonica Sports Association, a loyal friend to many children and adults, and walking handbook of sports knowledge and information with entire chapters dedicated to Michael Jordan and the NFL. Throughout his brave battle with cancer, Devin had the privilege of meeting two of his sports heroes, Michael Jordan and Devin Hester. He is survived by his mother, Darla Buss of Pecatonica; father, Kevin Buss of Pecatonica; sister, Kayla Buss of Pecatonica; grandmothers, Linda Buss and Barbra Anderson, both of Pecatonica; grandfather, Robert (Sandy) Buss of Gratiot, Wis.; uncles and aunts, Dean and Deb Runte, Mike and Julie Buss, Roger Buss, Jim and Marilyn Anderson, all from Pecatonica, Tony and Melissa Buss of Kentucky and Jean Ann Oppegard of Carlinville; cousins, Jared and Tanner Runte, Nicole Buss, Danielle Buss, Dylan Buss and Lauren Buss; several great-aunts, uncles and cousins; best friend and father figure, Jason Stram of Machesney Park; and his loyal companions, Hope, Lucy and Zoey. Predeceased by grandfather, Floyd Anderson. Special thanks to UW-Madison Children's Hospital, Hospice, Make-A-Wish Foundation, the local area communities and the many loyal friends and family who are always there. A very special thank-you to Kathleen Meade of FHN who went above and beyond the call of duty with the family. A celebration of life service at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, in the New Life Bible Church located on Route 20 and Hoisington Road, with the Rev. Amy Poust, Pastor of the Pecatonica United Methodist Church officiating. Burial in Pecatonica Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, in Pecatonica High School. To the family and friends of Devin,

I remember being amazed watching Devin during 3rd grade basketball. My daughter Allison attended school with Devin, and we still talked about the little blond boy with the incredible basketball skills. We were just thinking of him last week when my daughter had girls 7th grade basketball camp. He touched the lives of so many people and will always be remembered. I can't imagin the loss you're suffering. You'll be in our prayers.

Darla and Family,
We didn't know Devin but do know that he was a very brave little man. He was a very special part of the community. Knowing you and your family for as long as we have....you know that small towns have huge hearts. Our hearts are hurting with yours in the loss of your son. Devin is soaring with wings like eagles now. We are praying for you and your family Darla.

Devin Sky Buss;
He was the sweetest kid i've ever talked to. He put everyone before him. Even if it was him that needed the help. He was very athletic. I called him little Jordon because of his amazing basketball skills. He was awesome at everything he did he gave everything his all. He would do anything for his sports. I know that he is in heaven watching down over us making sure we don't cry but suck it up and be a man. He was awesome, but now hes even more popular with God, our creator, and Jesus, our savior.
I dont really know very much about him but i know he was a sweet perfect kind kid!!
I guess the lord wanted a sweet kind kid. I know your in a better place now Dev... no more suffering your free to do whatever pleases you...
You will always be with me in everything i do especially sports....

I love you <3

and to the Buss family...
you are in my prayers

Darla & Kay,
He was the most athletic person i have ever met in my whole life, he meant so much to so many people.
He put a smile on everyones face & he always made people laugh. He will be greatly remembered. He had the best potential i have ever seen. I remember going to Lake Summerset with Devin & Patrick, & playing tag in the water, that was great.
& all the times in the car we would take off our seatbelts and then when My sister & Kayla would turn around & yell at us to put them back on. That was pretty hilarious. Kay, stay strong. Devin's watching over us & we all know that he was not a selfish person, he would want us all to be happy that he's not suffering anymore. I miss the Devin i use to know and the memories i use to know, but every happy thing has an ending. <3.
Darla, he loved you so much, but keep your head up, he's doing better up there. <3

I love you Kay & Darla. <3
Forever.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Through the love and admiration of your sweet, loving, dear friend Debbie Wagner, I was able to know you. I saw wonderful pictures of a young man who wanted to laugh, love and enjoy life. And through your strength Devin you gave so many people the fondest loving memories.

I was told so many beautiful stories of how you came to Freedom to play in the snow, and how you got Debbie to go bowling with you. She shared those photos with me. The way you got her to laugh and enjoy precious time with someone who had so liitle left, was beyond the words this world has ever known.

Your life is celebrated by everyone, those who knew you, and even some like myself who never had the fortune.

They say that when we open that door to where you are today, we will either step on solid ground, or we will be taught how to fly. You're flying young man. With the angels of our dear sweet Lord and Creator. Enjoy His world of peace, love and eternal happiness.

Although you will be truely missed by those left behind, we'll hold each other and continue to remember a little boy that was the strongest when his body was the weakest. We'll all share in your lifes stories forever.

Thank you Darla, for bringing such a wonderful young man into this world. My deepest thoughts and prayers are with you, and your dear sweet friends Kathy, and always, to my Debbie. Through this chain I am blessed in knowing and caring for someone I've never met.

God Bless you young man.

To Devin's family ~ so sorry to hear of his passing ~ lifting him in prayer as we sing ~

May the angels lead him into Paradise.

May the martyrs come to greet him on the way.

May they lead him home to the holy city,

to the new and eternal Jerusalem.

May the choirs of angels come to welcome him.

May they take him to the arms of Abraham,

where Lazarus is poor no longer,

and there may he find rest, rest eternal.

Light eternal shine on him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

Linda,
God loves the little children but we often wonder why he takes them so soon. I am so sorry to hear about Devin, a little on I never had a chance to know. Life is to short and families need to know one another better. God bless all of Devin's family.
