One of the greatest men I ever had the honor of knowing. Taught me things during our many hours that I will never forget. A man who carried himself with dignity and pride. Left a positive mark on everyone he met. The world morns and has lost a true gentleman.

I did a person search for Eddie Mecum (just to see if was still in the car business) and found that he had passed away in 2017. I am saddened by our loss. Mr. Mecum was not only my (outstanding) boss at Speedway Auto Mall but was a friend who cared for me much like a father, he taught me how to sell cars with a heart and compassion for the customers. When I left Speedway Auto Mall it was for bus driving position with VanGalder Bus Company. One day (about a year later) I was picking up passengers in Rockford,IL and there he was boarding my bus for Chicago to catch a flight out. His first words to me were "Hey babe, you ready to come back to work"? This man was awesome and it reflected in his family and the way he did business. I will always have fond memories of Mr. Mecum and his wife along with their son Eddie Jr.. God's blessing to the Mecum family, may He grant you peace.

Mr. Mecum was one of the coolest folks in Rockford. My father-in-law; Isic was his pit man and racecar builder towards the end of his racing days. I got to spend time with him and he always funny as hell and always jokes up his sleeves. He will be greatly missed around Speedway Auto Mall.

Edward Mecum was my Uncle Ed and I spent a lot of time with he and my Aunt Shrley as a youth. Uncle Ed was bigger than life. My parents worked very hard but I wouldn't say that it seemed they loved their work. In contrast, Uncle Ed got up every day and put on a fashionable suit and tie and enthusiastically embraced his work, which he clearly loved. That had a great impact on me and I remember being about 7 years old and deciding that whatever I did when I grew up I wanted to wear a tie and to love my work. I have followed that path and am eternally grateful for his influence. I also recall going into the kitchen one evening and watching my Uncle Ed cut a slice of chocolate cake. He then put the cake into a glass and poured milk on it and then ate it with a spoon! It was the strangest thing to me but I copied him. As I was scraping the delicious frosting mixed with milk off the inside of the glass I thought this man is a genius! I often eat cake this way to this day and think about my Uncle Ed.

I stopped one day at speedway and mr. and mrs. mecum happened to stop by too. This was a couple of years ago. I was just looking and mr. mecum told the salesperson to give me a good deal as he overheard I was a farmer's wife. What a nice thing to do for someone he'd never met. So sorry for your loss.
