HOWARD L. ROACH, 92 KIRKLAND - Howard L. Roach, 92, of Kirkland passed away in his home, Tuesday, May 26, 2009. Born Sept. 16, 1916, the son of Freeman and Dorcas (Heath) Roach, in their home in Boone County. He married Dorothy Mae Taylor, on Oct. 8, 1938, in the Little Brown Church in Nashau, Iowa. Dorothy predeceased him in 2004. Howard farmed in the Kirkland area prior to being Kirkland postmaster for several years. He enjoyed his retirement watching the Chicago Cubs, and the activity at the bird feeder in his front yard. Survived by sons, Bill (Kay) Roach of Chana, Mike (Carol) Roach of Kirkland, Len (Donna) Roach of Belvidere; grandchildren, Gina (Ron) Nicholls, Steven (Jennifer Williamson) Meier, Elizabeth (Ken) Miller, Tammy (Max) Holland, Amanda (Dave) Anderson, Shaun Roach, Leah Roach, Melissa (Ryan Vanderwaal) Roach, Sarah (Matt) Lynch, David (Heather) Roach; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Swenson and Deanna Pettis. Predeceased by wife; son, Ronald Roach; and brother, Russell Roach. Service at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, in Quiram Kirkland Chapel, 309 S. Fifth St., Kirkland, with visitation from 9 a.m. to time of service; the Rev. Dr. Daniel F. Diss will officiate. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Memorials to Kirkland Methodist Knitting Ministries.
