Ivan Snuggs

IVAN BRUCE SNUGGS ROCKFORD - Ivan Bruce Snuggs died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at Alpine Fireside. Born May 14, 1923, in Woodburn Iowa; son of Jacob and Pearl Brown Snuggs, the youngest of seven children. One sister, Veta McCarty, 95, of Iowa still survives. Ivan lived in Caledonia 44 years before retiring to Rockford. After graduating high school in Iowa, he served in the Army's 99th Signal Battalion during WWII in the South Pacific. Was discharged as Master Sgt. He then came to Illinois to begin farming. On April 15 1950, he married Marjorie McCullough. She died July 29, 1972. On June 4, 1988, he married Dorothy Strawser. Ivan was a dairy farmer all his life, also raising corn and beans. A member of the Caledonia Congregational Church. Served 27 years on Caledonia Township Board. Sold Mormans Feed and Pioneer Seed Corn for 15 years. Past Commander of North Boone American Legion Post 205. Member of the VFW, Poplar Grove Lions, Belvidere Moose, Pure Milk Association, Boone County Farm Bureau, and Weekend Tractor Pullers. Was active in the 4-H. Loved to help his kids and grandkids show cattle and pull tractors at the Boone County Fair. He leaves wife, Dorothy; daughters, Susan (Dennis) Harnish, Kimberly (Dan) Anderson, Leann (Greg) Kuhlemeyer; son, Scott (Cheri) Snuggs; grandson, Craig Harnish; granddaughter, Jamie Harnish, great-granddaughter, MacKenzie Powers, granddaughter, Maggie Snuggs; grandson, Matthew Kuhlemeyer; stepdaughter, Cathleen Strawser; stepsons, Terry Strawser, Bob Strawser (Martha); 5 step grandchildren and 7 step greatgrandchildren. No matter how long the day was, Ivan could always find time for dancing , tractor pulling and talking with friends. He will be deeply missed. Funeral service at 2 p.m. Monday, January 6, at Highland Memorial Funeral Home, Belvidere, IL. Visitation from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
