Joseph Splinter Obituary

JOSEPH 'JOE' T. SPLINTER, 91 ROCKFORD - Joseph "Joe" T. Splinter, 91, of Rockford died at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, in North-woods Care Center, Belvidere. Born Nov. 14, 1918, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Theodore and Nora (Meyer) Splinter. Moved to Rockford as a child and attended St. Thomas High School. He married Eva Gregory on May 18, 1942, in Princeton, Mo.; she died April 29, 1983. Joe served in the U.S. Army and worked as an electrician for 65 years. Member of St. Edward Catholic Church and a IBEW Local 364 member for most of his life. He was an avid golfer, shot his age at "72" and every year after that until 89 years old. Played faithfully at Macktown and Ledges. Was a die-hard Cubs fan and always looked forward to going to Wrigley Field. Survived by son, Thomas (Lynn) of Rockford; granddaughters, Cynthia Lynn (Dan) Berlin of Downers Grove and Suzanne Christine (Jon) Evenson of Dubai, United Arab Emirates; great-grandchildren, Ryan Pavinato, Fayth Evenson, Erica and Max Berlin; sisters, Eileen Bracke and Virginia Spoden; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by sister, Juanita Finley; and nephew and good friend, William "Billy" Finley. Special thanks to Northwoods Care Center staff, especially Joyce Wolf and nurse Michelle Heinhorst. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, in St. Edward Catholic Church, 3004 11th St., with Father Michael Black officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, in Olson Funeral and Cremation Services Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave. Memorials preferred to St. Edward Catholic Church or American Heart Association, 208 S. LaSalle St., Suite 1500, Chicago, IL 60604.
